I just looked at the plastic hilts at that "plastic legs" site... <img src="http://thornbury.diaryland.com/images/no.gif"> No way I'm fighting with one of those. Those look like they'd fold in on you in a heartbeat. Almost everyone up here uses these. My knight introduced them (6'4" 300lbs) 5 or 6 ...

I fail to see how rattan that is broken or broomed out inside of siloflex is a bigger safety issue than when a normal rattan sword breaks. They can both send a chunk of the sword flying. Jurgen The difference being that you can inspect rattan when it is not covered with siloflex. Even with tape, yo...

Wil, Damon ended up getting laser physio on the scar tissue on his elbow. Poof. New elbow. Before this he couldn;t fight AT ALL with a broadsword righthanded. Everyone else has good advice here. Ice after fighting is one of the keys, it lets the tendons realize they have time to heal properly instea...

If you are careful you can sand and polish. Do not, I repeat do not take a grinder to that tool. You have a beautiful tool that will work very well if you simply polish it up a bit. Most of the wrk you do on an anvil takes place on a 3" section of the anvil. Go here: m and check out the guru's page....

Re: spurs
is that Master Sir Fionbhar over in Midrealm? If so --small world-- I know him via SCA Equestrian activities! I'll send him an email via his wife, Mistress Isabeau (an lovely talented couple!) . He got his Laurel for blacksmithing --I thought it was more in the realm of horse shoes (he's a farrier)...

Over at www.anvilfire.com a fellow by the name of Fionbhaar (sp) frequents the boards. He has his SCA Laurel in making spurs...(I think).

I finally got a welder....now I need to clean my shop!
I found a good sale on the small gasless 110V mig welders from Lincoln and took the plunge and bought it. I know it is too small for a lot of process but will serve me well on many tasks.
Now I need to unpack and organize my garage to officially turn it into a "shop". Yay!

Your favorite protein shake etc
Along the vein if the monday morning train in thread.
Someone mentioned a shake that has helped them with the soreness from training etc. (Boy do I need that!)
Which one do you like?
Why?

Scrap yard score
I've decided to make my own splinted legs. These will be leather covered with the splints sandwiched between. My plan was to use plastic for most of the splints except the spots that get hit a lot. So I went searching the scrap yards and found two chunks of t-6 aluminium approx 6"w x 10' long 10g. N...

I'd be the guy fighting Sir Daniel in the parking lot. They make SCA events without fighting? That's a weird concept. What would you do until the drinking and girl chasing started? Training isn't always stuff you like. I *hate* hitting a pell, or drilling in general. But, it's necessary if I want to be any good at this stuff. If it's any consolation about your knee, Ewan, now's a good time to hone your mind. Watch tapes, read books, get your armour straight, etc. I, however, ...
