The most dangerous/life threating incident for me in the SCA was a "training" session at a Border Raids about 11 years ago while I was EM for the Midrealm. I was showing a bunch of Meridian Knights (including Bearkiller and Kane) some of my Polearm techniques. Doing just slow work without my helmet....

I can't fight in a bargrill. I have never owned one and on the few occasions that I have borrowed one to fight in, it drove me nuts. I had way too much visablity. It proved to be a distraction. I suppose I could have gotten use to using a bargrill, but I enjoy having the closed face helm. More menec...

The rule against grasping the blade of a weapon (even your own) pre-dates my joining the SCA so it would be pure speculation as to the reason for that rule being there. I trap swords all the time. I do it as a means to break up my opponents attack rhythm. Since, in the SCA you cannot trap a blade with any part of your body, I have to use my sword and shield. I have never figured out a way to pommel my opponent while trapping their weapon in this fashion. But it kee...
