Awesome! Many thanks for the advice and instructions. For the time being I just want to make myself a pair, but if the process is not too costly and time consuming I might consider cranking out a few pairs to sell, if there were people interested. I´ll post pics when I get around to doing this.

Forms for Vaccum Forming

If I was wanting to make some forms for say, bazubands and demi-gauntlets, what would be something I could make the forms out of? I´ve heard carved wood, but somehow I think I would botch that. Would something simple like a ball on a tube be sufficient to get the general shape (bazus)? Thanks in ad...

Coloring Helms

In the Bayeux Tapestry there appear to be several colored helms There is heat/chemical darkening of course, but are helms (talking in SCA context) ever painted? And if so what type of paints/processes could be use...

Irish at the Battle of Hastings?

Would there have been any Irishmen amongst the army of William the Conqueror at the Battle of Hastings? I´m working on a persona that would have been present during the Norman conquest, but a surname I´d like to use (O´Conall: grandson of the wolf) is (obviously) Irish. Don´t know how off base I...

I recall a long long time ago seeing a post, (think it was on here) about a guy who built a contraption to attach a barrel to the back of his bike that he filled with sand. IIRC he'd ride his bike around the neighborhood with the sand barrel rolling behind to polish his chainmail. I bet it wouldn't ...

16 gauge is technically the minimum, but you'd have to not love your brains if you wore one that light. On the choice of helm. Are you going to be using this for SCA? I can't tell you what to do, but there are lots of bad ass period looking helms that are just as cool (IMO much cooler) than that helm.

Build an entirely new kit and get fighting again.

Commission a Rus helm from someone.
Lamellar body (though probably do hidden for the time being)
Bazubands from uncle Haroun
Make fighting boots.
Build other necessities for SCA (gorget, demis, etc)

I talked to Brian Price when he first started selling these. He says that they are not safe as finger gauntlets. The kevlar plates in them will eventually fail when used as heavily as SCA fighting gauntlets are used. They aren't made for that, they are sparring gloves. By the time you put enough ri...

To make heavy combat finger gauntlets out of these:

I'll assume they're not padded well enough themselves to just attach plates and call it good.

Ha but no the Dane axe sounds like a good idea.

Anybody have pics of the construction, I saw one from the "New Dane Axe" thread, with the kayak foam and rattan blade, just wondering if there are any other methods. Cheers.

What I suspect Sir Haroun means is more being sharp and focused in your mind and body while working the pell, than super tight tension as in sanchin kata, where one takes thirty seconds or more to complete every technique. Then again maybe he does. Spot on, not so much tensing your body up till you...
