Randal and Earnest did yall read his post that clarified what he meant.

English as in the tongue spoken by his non-norman subjects. Middle English I would guess.
And primary language as in What he would have cuss you out in if you woke him up roughly from a deep sleep.

I think many kings in England spoke English before the 14th century as a main language, likely much earlier. Matthew Paris makes a comment about Henry III regarding his use of English but I could not find it after a quick look. I think by the 13th century everyone spoke English. There is a differen...

Gatorade is definitely mixed too strongly so it either needs to be watered down or drunk with water. One trick our water bearers used for Sunday summer fighter practices was to mix gatoraid with about twice as much water as it instructs. Basically if you could stand to drink it you needed to drink i...

Reminds me of my first (and only) class on Chaucer - we started with works like Boethius's "Consolation of Philosophy," presumably to provide some context (sorry, Mord...!). The professor lost me the moment (at the first class, mind you) he said, "Now if Boethius were RAMBO..." ...

I tend to be a big fan of getting to the details of past societies myself, Glen, but I'm not always sure if all the details even fit together. More importantly, I'm never sure if all the details are still exists. History gets lost, forgotten, or misconstrued. How, then, can you synthesize a larger ...

It's interesting, though, that so many of the contributions seem to be entirely literary in nature. You can't neglect the literary aspect in history, of course, but I wonder whether the choice of subjects reflect medievalism in the US adequately?
