Short answer cause my longer one crashed. English fashion more or less follows the fashion of the Low Countries, there are indications of a bit of conservativism which the more English art from the period we get access to the more we kinda see and understand that. Avoid stripes, brocades are fine fo...

but it's a bit destabilizing for our game, unless and until we regularly train with it so folks get used to the range and add it to their melee sense and peripheral vision awareness. That is kinda the nature of warfare and the introduction of new weapons to it. In some ways it gets back to are SCA ...

Why is a waster called a waster? The name implies nothing about what a disposable practice weapon is made of. It's unknown. No one AFAIK has traced an etymology. I wouldn't say it's unknown. The only question is does it come from Latin from French through the English Wasten, or did it come directly...

Ironically the MED search can be difficult to search because of the varient spellings. You'll notice when you use the search you can search for headwords or headwords and forms. You will pretty much always use the second. For going from Modern English to words that mean something in Middlle english ...

Thank you, Piers! Contrary to popular belief I'm not out to pick on people. Sometimes having a small piece of information you didn't before can radically change something without changing it much at all. Your photo and post show clearly that you care, most people don't. Some are honest about it, ma...

I was just going to tell you how to change the shape of it to make it look more like a certain style of late 15th century livery.
The big thing is bringing the shoulders way in you can see them here. big open sides.

By and large late-15th century armour works very well with SCA combat. You can stick with a jack and put kidney protection in it, heck could even put neck protection in it. Or you can do a standard for neck protection. or for the body a brigandine. thigh protection is a personal choice, you can go w...

Best I can do without really digging around is La Isabella in the Caribbean about 50 years earlier. The riveted mail would appear to be round cross section, I'd guess round rivet but its hard to tell from the drawing and that level of detail isn't given in the text. Most found was copper alloy becau...

Re: An Outsider's Impression of an SCA Fighter Practice
If you hit a guy on his basket hilt over and over, you have the satisfaction of knowing that you are a sword-fighter and he is a stick fighter. I'm curious does fighting with gauntlets even without hand targeting tend to improve defense of the hand. When is Sir Giotto's practice? And if you don't m...

Firstly you should usually be wearing a coat in the 15th century when wearing hose so your butt and groin should be covered except in a few odd fashions except when doing physical labor. And remember that 15th century hosen are like tight fitting sweat pants. In fact if your going to use a strech co...

I don't suppose you could see if we could get an order big enough to get the brig nails designed by Chef and have you put the excess up for sale for the future.
