Ironically when asked by someone I know locally about this very subject one of the things I explained was why it is important to ensure t...

If you are really concerned about getting something from a specific local then you are going to have to find art produced in that region and if possible some records. The place to start in Germany is the bildindex and look in the museums and churches of every town in the area even all the little sma...

I have only ever seen bag lining on extant articles; the lined or layered garments are for the upper class. Any chance you can give some more information, I'm guessing its mostly 16th century stuff but I always have to try and decide what to do each time I make a new garment. My latest coat I didn'...

I didn't read this but I'd recomend a brigandine, you can get 23ish ga 1-1/4 spring steel banding/strapping for a reasonable price. If you live in an area along the the gulf or east coast you might be able to find it at Lowes it comes galvanized there. You can also order it from McMaster Carr where ...

There is an article on the influence of romanances on medieval tournaments. There was also a treatise written in the 15th century which is something along the lines of how tournaments were held in the days of King Arthur. and I might be able to find them where? I believe both are avalible on jstor....

My mind has somewhat blanked on this. I can think of continental sources that deal with the legalities of them and a 15th century English source that does as well. I've never seen evidence for an actual wager of battle that late although I've seen vague reference to them still being around somewhat ...

Before you package two items together like that get the measurements for how the shipper defines a larger package. For UPS it looks like If the longest side of your package is over 60 inches or the second longest side is over 30 inches then it is an irregular which means it has to be handled differe...

Pea pottage. Not the tastiest thing in the world but apparently very nutritious. If you less concerned about modern storage forms then canned meats and what not are certainly an option to consider. That gives you soups and all sorts of possibilities. If you get eggs from a farm they keep at least a ...

You need to get the book Tudor and Jacobean Tournaments by Alan Young. I'm pretty sure I have an image from one of the Valois tapestries in a book so if you don't find them let me know and I'll try and either find the last time I scanned it or scan it again. I looked into this some when trying to de...

I'm looking to see if anyone can help me identify this heraldry. It is the one on the top center. From the main arms it would appear to be associated with the English royal arms. Stripey Heart Arms The Manuscript is dated to Munich 16th century. Hofkleiderbuch des Herzogs Wilhelm IV. und Albrecht V....

Locking Goods
While at small events having access to your wallet and other valuables is not of much importance and when you know everyone at the event there is little chance anyone is going to try and steal anything. What do people typically do with these things, I suppose locking it in your car is one option. Yo...

I assume we are talking literary Arthur. I didn't see Excalibur until last year and it atleast tries to capture medieval Arthurian literary ideas unlike movies like First Knight. IMO the best Arthurian film in English is Monty Python's Search for the Holy Grail. There is a French movie Percival that...

Yes the huntsman following their lord to war. If their job is really as some sort of huntsman or game warden or keeper of the lords hunting dogs or what not then I'd guess against them going off to war with the lord. Now a large number of the people in those depictions aren't really huntsmen but are...

Outside of some questionable assumptions you are mostly on the right track but you definitely need to look for some art of foot soldiers from the beginning of the 15th century. Many of the people depicted are likely a part of the princes household and therefore would likely be part of his riding ret...
