Re: Newbie questions

From a fighter local to your area: The Three Mountains fighter practices are actually very newbie friendly. Many good fighters and instructors attend there. You would do well to go even if you can't get your armour to work right. The Stromgard fighter practices are also good. Again, many knights, du...

Re: Training Idea.

One that was shown to me is referred to as 3-1.
The attacker has 3 shots, the defender has one. The defender can only swing after the attacker throws one blow.
Repeat 5 times each.

It has actually helped our new fighters learn how to "put it all together".

Re: What are you training for?

I train for endurance in war. -- Last year at An-Tir/West war I was only in about 1/2 the scenarios because I had to sit out and catch my breath. I train for more stamina in tournaments - so if I make it past the first 2 rounds, I am not struggling to hold my shield up. -- I have issues in both shou...

I generally use the metal cutting blades for my leather cutting. If you keep the blade speed fast and move the blade slowly, it makes a fairly clean cut.

Likely you won't need it to be that long. Most Mongol coats / Deels I have seen don't generally come past the knees.

I have a decent pattern for a Mongol coat that I use as a gambeson under my armour.

Medieval Mythbusting - Silk shirts

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VIk_5v2JL_I I did this video to start to see if there was any truth at all to the prevalent legend about a silk shirt as a base layer under armour. The legend says that if an arrow penetrated the armour that the silk shirt would wind around the arrow and follow it int...

http://www.mcmaster.com/#trim-molding/=b3ht16 Lots of choices and sizes that may work well for you, especially if it's canvassed first. For those trims, I would suggest putting them on either the bare shield or once it's been canvassed. Then stretch your rawhide over it and you should be good to go.

I use zip ties to hold the siloflex edging I put on my shields until the lacing can go on. Usually the ties wind up under the cord lacing, which is then covered with either canvas or rawhide.
