Other Shan Wen Jia

I too have started a Shan-Wen Jia project. I am doing my own thread as I do not want to jack the fine work of James on his thread. I had 300 scales laser cut about 5 years ago. They have sat, some shaped and largely collecting dust and a little rust. They were from 18g mild steel. Since my lacquered...

Re: Shan Wen Kia

Looks like this will be a race to the finish here. I had some scales laser cut about 4 years ago and I am finally getting around to doing a full torso out of them. I look forward to comparing notes and construction methods. -- BTW, I already did the hand-cut scales and decided the experience was mor...

Re: Shield Conventions - An Tir

True, they are conventions. I think the king does set his preferences for the next Crown tournament. The last one I think declared "no stabbing" (did not make it to the event, so I don't know for sure) I have not seen anything recent for Cedric's preferences this reign regarding tourney sh...

Thanks for the input. The production run was a rush, and I would have preferred to do a lot more finish work. The next production set will definitely have edges beveled and dyed, and the hardening will be via water/bake with an acrylic sealer. The leather was undyed, the wax used was from a bunch of...

New demi-gauntlets I made

I finally made some stuff I wanted to post here. I put together some hardened leather demi gauntlets. I made a production run of 5 pairs, 2 of which already sold. I made them to be available for the new fighters in my SCA house. http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3096/3956709146_51d5f038c5.jpg They are ...

Working toward going below the 200 mark within the next year.

Rattan - sword and shield, spear and glaive. Getting into CA.

Also: Amtgard foam fighting (more SCA rattan now than foam)

no rank of significance in either.

I am coming to SCA combat archery after doing about 10 years of combat archery in Amtgard. After assembling my first few SCA combat arrows, I have discovered a few things. 1. I now understand the need for the "anti-bounceback" devices. I shot my own storage shed (wood sides) and from 10 ya...

Mind you, the portable holes that people advertise here are far superior, but if you have an event this weekend and need something fast - go to Wal-Mart. Man, he really wanted that water! http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2569/3696540403_8...

We have a guy up this way also doing a "generi-greek". He has a shield similar to that. It's a bit bigger, but the concept is the same. He has it strapped so his elbow is at/near the center and the arm is angled up at about 30 degrees or so. He is able to defend his shield side quite well....

Looking for some nice feast gear like plates and the sort any ideas? Let's not forget everyone's favorite place to get (at least starter) feast gear - the local Goodwill (Salvation Army).
