I know that a lance is useless at close quarters, it's meant for charging at your enemy. Not riding up to your enemy and trading shots with him. Again, not always. From the Froissart story above: This morning there had been hoar-frost, which had made the ground slippery; so that as he marched he en...

1)That two heavily armored knights were really in no danger of death from one another due to their codes of chivalry, and the fact that both were covered in huge amounts of armor. 2)In fact, in an informal joust, the only danger either knight faced was getting knocked off his horse, and being tramp...

I've never seen any CA. It's just rez-till-you-drop, my favorite scenario.

It's a little odd not having it on Sunday though. Kamikaze was always the appetizer to war week for me. It's odd having it come in the middle of the feast.

Thanks for all the help everyone!

I have my first formal squire-ish thing to do and I don't want to look like Alaric's swamp-rat rennie squire.

Jeff, I had planned on making your shop my very first stop. Thanks for the opening date info. See you there. :)

Pennsic merchant dates? And a clothing question.

On what day does merchanting open up at Pennsic? I need to buy a nice outfit sometime before Tuesday evening, war week. I have something important to do and my current garb isn't up to the job. Not by a long shot. It's gotta be fairly authentic, and fairly spiff. And cool - short or open sleeves wou...

I am sure you have reasons for trying to dress that up with brass, but I just can't fathom them. That's a beautiful helm as it is. +1. That's a beautiful hat, as-is. I wouldn't try to turn it into a sugarloaf clone. It'll suddenly not be what it is, and not be a sugarloaf either. Get another hat an...

Gorget question SCA

There is this wonderful picture over in this thread. (BTW, welcome back Guillaume!)

And I'm wondering. Is he wearing a gorget under that? Does he need to? What do the rules say about a maille drape in lieu of a gorget?

Any res battle, pretty much. Well...maybe not bridges so much, but pretty much anything where you're slugging away res after res.

Probably my fav is the Lost Boys Kamikaze. Something about that single battle. It's just the most fun you can have with your pants on.

The skull makes me think of Therion Arms. I seem to recall he uses skulls and skeletons for models in a lot of his pictures of his work.

Like this one at his site:

Similar motif, anyways. I'd ask Therion and see if it's one of his.

It's worth mentioning that Mcmaster Carr has angle grinder flap discs down to 600 grit.

You still get a case of the "swirlies" using them, but you can grind out a lot of your rough marks nicely.
