I know that a lance is useless at close quarters, it's meant for charging at your enemy. Not riding up to your enemy and trading shots with him. Again, not always. From the Froissart story above: This morning there had been hoar-frost, which had made the ground slippery; so that as he marched he en...

1)That two heavily armored knights were really in no danger of death from one another due to their codes of chivalry, and the fact that both were covered in huge amounts of armor. 2)In fact, in an informal joust, the only danger either knight faced was getting knocked off his horse, and being tramp...

Pennsic merchant dates? And a clothing question.
On what day does merchanting open up at Pennsic? I need to buy a nice outfit sometime before Tuesday evening, war week. I have something important to do and my current garb isn't up to the job. Not by a long shot. It's gotta be fairly authentic, and fairly spiff. And cool - short or open sleeves wou...

Wish I had any clue how to spell the good Chinese stuff - dit djao or something like that... burns right through your skin and never get it in a cut, but it will increase circulation to the area and speed healing. I am sure you have reasons for trying to dress that up with brass, but I just can't fathom them. That's a beautiful helm as it is. +1. That's a beautiful hat, as-is. I wouldn't try to turn it into a sugarloaf clone. It'll suddenly not be what it is, and not be a sugarloaf either. Get another hat an...

Field Battle, 2003. This really captures the majesty and scope of just how big the large melees are.
I didn't scale it because it makes decent wallpaper.

Gorget question SCA
There is this wonderful picture over in this thread. (BTW, welcome back Guillaume!)
And I'm wondering. Is he wearing a gorget under that? Does he need to? What do the rules say about a maille drape in lieu of a gorget?

Sorry I didn't get to this yesterday. Did manage it tonight though. Dark Victory armour pics. This suit has never seen combat. It comes out of the box just like this. It's a little dusty from sitting in a closet, but otherwise it's fresh from the postman. Also before the person who bought it gave up...

The skull makes me think of Therion Arms. I seem to recall he uses skulls and skeletons for models in a lot of his pictures of his work.
Like this one at his site:

Similar motif, anyways. I'd ask Therion and see if it's one of his.

Midrealm expired auth card question
My card has expired and I need another one. I'm pretty sure this is the right person to talk to. But the page says: Please direct all request for authorization cards to Lady Siban You will not get a card if you do not include a WAIVER and the AUTHORIZATION FORM. The waiver isn't a problem of course,...

It's worth mentioning that Mcmaster Carr has angle grinder flap discs down to 600 grit.
You still get a case of the "swirlies" using them, but you can grind out a lot of your rough marks nicely.

Scroll down to the Silicon Carbide discs.

Any suggestions from looking at the pictures about what I could improve? A few thoughts. 1) You need a real raising hammer. They're not so narrow and won't ding the work as much. You can see the hammer I use here: m Light colored handle hammer just above the work. It doesn't mess up the metal at al...

All good names so far (except for the one, Doug
