Review: Gundo's Armour Tools

Two thumbs up for Gundo. Ordered a long ball stake and a simple vice held forming bar. Communication was good throughout. There was a mixup with shipping that slowed the order, but after that was straightened out the package arrived quickly. When it did arrive, to make up for the delay Gundo threw i...

Thanks for the pointers Mac. I appreciate you taking the time to type all that out. You hit on a few mistakes I made without a doubt. I think I got the piece too hot. My kiln is a bit on the overkill side. A cop I made that worked was in the red-orange range. Thinking back I got my pieces this time ...

What I learned today with my kiln and 4130

Today had its ups and its downs, for sure. Today was my first day using my kiln to actually fire a piece of armour I intended to wear. Had some seriously mixed results. I warped half my pieces. Here's what I learned today. Not only is it important to put the hot piece into the water evenly, it appea...

Do an archive search on 4130 - there's lots of threads about it.

Here's a good one.

I'm almost done with a set of legs in 4130. I'll be posting pictures sometime soon hopefully.

Re: Hockey gloves suck

Are you sure you got hit? Sounds more like to me you probably raised your shield up and when the lines hit you shield got knocked into your helmet or breast plate squishing your fingers. Yeah, that might have been it. Dunno. It was a surprise though. I'm feeling pretty good today. Advil kicked in a...

Did you use street hockey gloves, which are completely inadequate, or did you use ice hockey gloves, which are the bare-minimum? It's an ice hockey glove. With an added T6 .090 aluminum knuckle plate. I'll post a picture later on tonight. It sure looks like enough, I'll give it that. No way in hell...

Hockey gloves suck

Don't use them. I used to up until last Wednesday. I use a thin glove/half gauntlet combo for my sword hand. But I had a hockey glove behind my shield on my left hand. I decided to be extra safe and add a knuckle guard to it, just to be extra safe. Seemed like enough. And still someone hit me in my ...

Fight the field battle. You *must* fight the Field Battle. Nothing like it on this earth. What he said. It's the biggest SCA battle there is, bar none, strewth. And #2 on that list is the Woods Battle. Don't miss that one. Bands of armies moving through the pine trees. The crunch of twigs under you...

As i never used these power tools before? what makes them so dangerous? They spin dangerously fast. They can occasionally snag and grab the piece you're working on and fling it in a random direction at mach 2. ALWAYS wear safety goggles when using your grinders. A left hand glove is a good idea too.

Re: Need help for a bunch of newbie armor questions

Simplest chin strap method I like a 4 point system: Top of ears to a buckle under the chin and front of chin through 2 slots to band with buckle on the right hand side. Any better ideas? Animal in some other thread said he takes a football chin piece and wires it directly onto his bargrill. I did s...

First off I really like what you've got there. You've got a good eye for finding a correct shape of a piece. I agree with Matt. You need to planish a bit more before putting the grinding to it. Keep in mind I'm a newbie too, but here's what I'd do: Once I get a rough shape in metal, I go over it lig...

Because Pennsic does welcome the fey. And anybody else who pays the fee. That has always been my impression. Pennsic is not a strict SCA event. I know, I know...that is sure to start a flame war. I apologize in advance if things head that way. I think of Pennsic as "The Coopers Medieval Faire,...

Bog culture is indeed a strange thing. I'm there because those are the guys who first took me to Pennsic. I was first introduced to the SCA through them. I'm really sorry you were treated so poorly. I can't figure it out. People really treat merchants like that?
