You need to remember that Rainer, Pacific and most of the other companoes selling 'yurts' are actually selling yurt-shaped semi -portable cabins. They are great for a permanent or semi permanent building, but are COMPLETELY UNSUITABLE for SCA-type events. They are way overbuilt for what we do - and...

Yurt Pricing

Ok, although I don't have the blueprint exactly done I think I can come up with a ballpark number for what I'd charge for a 14' yurt. I'm going to step through how I came up with this number. First off, I tried to find the least expensive yurts out there. I just typed the word "yurt" into ...

Baelin, I've got a 2 month old kid myself. Not that you're asking for my advice (you didn't) but I'll offer it anyways. Don't sell your gear just yet. You can have a kid and have some fun on the side as well. Honest! It seems like a lot of work at first, but it'll mellow out. Takes a couple of month...

Heh. I thought I was the only person who had a chandelier in their yurt, although atmittedly mine isn't wrought iron. Does yours have a stained glass window in the door? Nope. No stained glass... But - I did make some decorative door straps copied from a door on the Warwick castle out of 6061 alumi...

So other than the golf umbrella, how are yurts in bad weather? What keeps em from blowing away in strong winds? Yurts are awesome in bad weather - remember where they come from. Wide flat areas where the wind has a lot of room to really get going and not many trees in the way. I'm not exactly sure ...

If you're looking for a stronger citric acid solution, you might try a brewer's shop.

My local one carries it for fairly cheap - a pound for 3 bucks. I usually use a dash or two in my mead before I toss the yeast in.

I'm going to bet your answer is FedEx Less Than Truckload. Price-dependent, I want an option (finances allowing, I am wifely-pre-approved), but I also have several questions: 1. Yurt or Ger? They're not the same thing. If it's a yurt, VASTLY prefer 5'30-deg. If it's a Ger, then 6'25-deg is okay 2. Are all the wooden pieces going to be properly curved? This...

Yurt construction - most pleasing dimensions

Hey everyone, I'm thinking about making and selling yurts on the side. Made a couple already and I like mine a lot, so why not make them and sell them? Anyways, I'm making design decisions and I'd like opinions on what are the most pleasing dimensions. I'm thinking either a 5 or 6 foot khana (wall),...

I couldn't tell you. I don't do a lot of armouring, although that is likely to change in the near future. I've only bought one and used it very little.

I just started working in 4130. Had my first successful kiln run here:

Before the quench, I got my piece to an orange heat, probably around 1800 F.

Kiln 2 - success! (picture heavy)

My first kiln thread was lost in the Great Purge of 07, so I'll do a quick recap. Made me a propane kiln, for the purpose of heating 4130 up to an orange heat for quenching. Made it out of a $100 smoker from Lowes, some insulation wool, kaoboard and stainless steel. The Mark 1 had design problems. T...
