Bystanders should be required to wear helmets and carry shields for their own safety. Either that or bystanders should be banned entirely. All they so is get in the doggone way anyways.

Those are mounting points for augmentation plates to thicken the left upper torso and neck for the heavy joust. A lance rest is typically to the right of center.

I hear a lot about head trauma in SCA but I thingk there is a more dangerous thing than blunt trauma in the the lists: heat.

Extreme heat can arguably cause brain damage more easily than the sort of head traumas typically dealt in the SCA.

This has happened to me - the horse and I both did a somersault-faceplant, but it didn't occur during a lead change. The horse just tripped and fell during a routine trail ride.
