I think what you're doing is great Trystan. And if you can figure out a way to make up to the Pacific Northwest (per the thoughts on the other thread!) - even better! Tasia Thank you. I envision regionalizing it by time zone. Ideally, each zone will have its own local governance, to better accomoda...

Combat Jousting in North America
Dear Medieval Martial Arts Community; I am interested in resurrecting the ashes (or the spirit, if you will) of the World Championship Jousting Association, the recently deceased tournament group that brought heavy jousters toge...

The Mrs. and I would be up for some of this. We also have some like minded friends who might enjouy a jaunt across the pond, all are Free Lancer certified heavy combat jousters. (have references) The cheaper the expenses, the more of them who could be interested. We are apt to be travelling with a c...

There is a lot going on in this picture. This horse is trying to dodge right and I am trying to reign him back towards the tilt rail. Note my hand position seems safe enough. Bosses say its most important to have the horse's head safely out of the target zone than to have some marginal amount of ext...

The first surge of adrenalin comes the moment you begin covering your body with heavy chunks of armor. One by one, the pieces carefully are locked in place. Now there is steel covering virtually everything you hold dear: neck, collarbone, shoulders, chest, back, arms, legs, lower abdomen, genitals....

Trystan, Do they walk around in armor all day? What do they wear when not in combat? Thanks again. 1. Barchan does, Ripper does not. Most of us agree that B. is kinda agro-loco to walk around in 80#+ of armor all day. B. is also one of the fittest late fiftysomethings I've ever met. He plays entire...

I like it but be be advised I am going to write in some rules for 'heavy' or 'full-contact' jousting on real horses... Yay Trystan!!!!!!! In my perfect world, the WCJA ruleset will hump the heck out of the IJA/Leeds/EJL rulesets and their lovechildren will inbreed to produce the SCA Heavy Jousting ...

Re: Renn Faire White Knight Persona help.
What says "White Knight" to you as soon as you see it? Ripper Moore Free Lance Paladin Knight Captain and Sworn Protector of Small Animals and Children Ripper is the epitome of a White Knight and is known to spontaneously emit sonnets when the muse overtakes him. He never uses foul language. He is ...

And - I knew at some point Trystan would get around to saying what Jeff is doing in Leeds "isn't really tilting". Been there before and was waiting to see how long it would take for him to find an opening to say it. Whatever- Rod Walker used to say the same thing before he got a visit from the Clue...

the books in my lap right now are the 'Barker/Barber', Tudor and Jacobean Tournaments by Alan Young and Osprey Elite 'Knights at Tournament #17' and on page 56 of the latter there is an interesting scoring cheque p192 of Barker/Barber talks about the highest scores going for: (c1466) 1. unhorsing or...

...also the fiancee and I watch "That Movie" at night to stay pumped up for multi-day gigs. My favorite lines are Chaucer's naked soliliquy (sp?) about Trudging, which I also find strangely motivational. Plus we get a huge kick out of his (Chaucer's) "Stylings" when he does his intro/announcer/heral...

For example, I heard of this wild rider from out west that jousts standing up in the stirrups and leaning in front of his saddle plate! WOW! To me that's really exotic and different. I want to cross lances with this self-styled black knight before I get too old. I mean, after all, they make movies ...

In general, I don't care if I come off as a roob or a goob or a pro wrestler in armor on a plow horse or snub magnet or jackanape or whathaveyou. Greetings Trystan - I like this comment. Perhaps we should consider the fact that most US joust groups, even professional ones, tend to use closet dowel lances, rather than turned shaped ones, most likely because of the difficulty and expense of producing shaped ones. I am from one of those professional-closet-dowel-using-US joust groups....
