Nope I don't own a Coat of Plates (I have something similar with exterior plates attached on internal leathers) But if you mean those nasty French fellows who slaughtered the citizens of Jerusalem (Bohemond and Tancared's boys) -- There are those who posit that the Coat of Plates developed from armo...

I think that this might be a depiction of a multi-ethnic force.. I agree that the archers may be Jews- the beards and hats alone make this likely, but notice that the armoured men-at-arms in the picture come in both fair-and-dark-skinned varieties... Skin color would not indicate anything at least ...

000-talet f.Kr. - 000-talet - 100-talet 000-century BC. - 000-century - 100th century Might have something to do with the language. Talet means century and ¨the number¨. This isnt my subject so I hope someone else can clear things up. I think this is a language issue The year 1 is not the same as...

From the pieces that I have seen, think more along the lines of hardwood slats laced together with sinew... not a lot of overlap, so I wouldn't call it lamellar per se. Perhaps lamellar in the generic sense - ie: plates held together by chord. Found an image http://americanindian.si.edu/searchcolle...

yes in a nice cool climate a coat would be great under the lam however in Oklahoma and Texas we fight in 104 in the shade. Last summer's crown tourney the heat index was 120 in the parking lot that we were fighting in. Let's be honest. Only the Oerthan's have event's inside year round and that's du...

Re: question about metalogical dating compaired to historica
He informed me that he dates things using the metalogical dating system. According to him the 13th century would be anything that fell between 1300 and 1399. He's an idiot You don't need to think about any system - just think logicaly: First Century - begining of the count to 99 go from there The g...

I've assembled a fair number of Byzantine and Byzantine-influenced images of people wearing this hood/scarf/thingy - I just haven't had the time to upload them. The bag is an aproximation of Magyar / Khazar pouches kinda combining characteristics of both but not quite catching the detail of either. But ... in a mostly plausible manner. The only strong issue is that as far as I know all of them hung from extensions connected to the belt (ie: a perpendicular ...

The fellow with the round shield clearly draws the eye and is therefore the real center of the tableu. Notice too how the warrior with the round shield differs from the rest with a helmet with retractable nasal and opened aventail. The armour is oriental in contrast to the Western armour of the rest...

Re: SCA and Armor Questions...
In SCA, does it matter if your armor is modified? Like a helmet that doesnt go with the rest of the suit(example: closed helm with lorica seg.)? Or not completly accurate remakes of armor (examples: a few flaws in design or made in a different way)? Last event I saw a guy in a Classical-Greekish he...

I was thinking of using silk cord Where can I get silk cord at a tolerable price? I am remembering a Chinese Empirial decree requiring Armourers to use leather cord. I'm guessing they knew from silk and thought the leather worked better. On my first set of WMA lams I used latigo from Tandy and it d...

Re: Color of my belt, do I need to change it?
But I had a friend who is a Duke ask me who I was squired to and I was taken aback because it didn't occur to me that it might resemble a squire's belt. That is not a red belt. I am a part-time professional (ie: published) artist and have taken formal courses including theory and history. My wife h...

Planno Carpini (or was it another Italian) describes folks making it at the fireside.... Making it by the fire doesn't mean it was leather. They could be lacing metal together. Carpini also mentions their armor was thin metal plates polished to a mirror finish. Let me rephrase - There is a descript...

This is the site I picked up the photo from. Unfortunately it does not show a date for the boot. The other gear is anywhere 12 to 14 cent. So you could be right. Though there is a well preserved purse that is labeled 10 to 15th cent. So : shrug : m David Nicolle has a photo with date in his Armies o...

This kind of hat/scarf appears a fair bit in Byzantine imagery, but I'm not sure whether it's always associated with Jewish people. Can you possibly provide other images of these? There are three there.
Numbered 1, 2 and 5.
While 1 and 2 seem historical from what I can tell,
number 5 is clearly a fabulous fantasy
This one (higher in the thread) is one of the actual 14th cent or so suits:
