Re: Helm which protects the neck?

What kind of power tools hit people in the neck? You would be surprised how much your neck is involved with everyday activities...until you damage it. Burgonets with a close tolerance gorget can make for a decent cervical collar. With our combat the biggest issue is too much neck/head travel to the...

Thanks for the advice, guys. I'm assuming for the angle-grinder I'd need some sort of industrial-scale vise to hold it still, right? Becareful not to grind too quickly with an angle grinder. Their fast speed can have an impact on temper. That is why bladesmiths like belt sanders. I've used belt san...

It is effective within our rules set. If we had the full spectrum of combat in the period with grappling, offensive shields, pommel strikes, etc... it would be a much different game. Getting past the point was very important to people that did not want to get stabbed for the last time. Using the swo...

That I will be protecting against a 2" tip, just like I have been for years? In keeping with the idea of better protection against the new spear tips, check your gorget. Three-inch tips can get inside many a helm now, so consider what this means with a much smaller surface area. Lucas is speak...

John, As long as you are willing to have a Gorget from Augsburg, I think the pattern on my new one is actually a very good and practical one. It is pretty small in the base and has good movement in the upper plates. It even opens up pretty nicely. You could do up a nice burgonet to match with the n...

Nice trove there Wade! The next armour study just got more subject matter. Yup, I think so. Could I use the articulated gorget for Pennsic? Nope. But you can look at it to make your own. Actually it has a nice thickness and look. The leathers are all there and appear sound. It is probably quite usa...

I'd go with a smaller wall tent, maybe 12x12 or 10x10 with the corners unsewn but with ties. Panther is willing to do them that way. That would allow you to set it up as a day shade by rolling up the door ends and raising one side up completely. I want one for events when I am traveling without my w...

You could do hairpin hinges in a pinch. I think I used 16 ga black iron wire. Two pieces of soft wire looped and put together at the loop. The loop acts as the hinge. Two holes drilled in the top and two in the back, parallel to the horizontal axis. The legs are threaded through and then twisted to ...
