How late is the represented armour? Could it be the tie for a late periodf capelet? Tends to end up in that armpit.

Maybe you should combine some of these listings into a single (or at least fewer) threads. I don't think people are going to love that you've just taken over the entire front page of our classifieds section. Edit: It would also be a good idea to use more sensible subject lines and avoid using caps ...

I'd prefer to have someone make hammer "Kits". Just blanks of temperable steel with eyes for the hammers drifted into them. Several different thicknesses of bar stock. I'll do the shaping from there.

Re: ISO heavy riveted mail drape
Why do you want a heavy mail drape? Is there a rule for weight you are trying to meet? In my opinion weight in the aventail does not add to the protective value of the helm with the possible exception of steel swords to the neck, in which case I would still prefer a gorget. Just curious It was reco...

Life is fatal. Real question is how much fun do you want to have and at what cost? There is risk everywhere. Fencing has had concussions. You can get them slipping on black ice ,too. I've been doing this long enough that I am not going put it aside now. Not fighting has its consequences too. Being o...

I have seem seemingly old rivets on pieces that sit pretty far off of the metal. Far enough that the slot and hole thing could work... but I haven't tried to do it on anything that was actually being used. I, like James, used it on restoration. I expect that there are some types of load where it wo...

How do I get rust off of it? It has some 'hot spots' already. - green scrubby too harsh? fine steel wool? Can a blued finish be reapplied after a while? 0000 fine steel wool and oil. Scrub lightly and change out the wool frequently as the rust comes off as the loose rust can scratch the surface. Gr...

It would be best if we could see it on you. Either in pictures or at the shop after Pennsic. It looks like the top ends of the BP sides are kicked out a bit and do not match the Back so they may be poking you. Are you saying that there is extra room between your body and the steel as well? It looks like the pattern works! I agree with Wade that the center is a bit flat BUT the flanks should have a pretty linear shape as that is how the joint works. Unlike the bowtie shape that a lot of reproductions have. Usually this happens from hitting it where it is easy to hit (and overthinning i...

Not a bad start dude. Probably better than my first go round. The gorget is a classic SCA pattern but not really made to interface well with a breastplate. No so much as a cringe as a "hope they don't strangle themselves when they raise their arms". You have enough neck that is probably not an issue...

It is an Eldrid piece. I traded a chain hauberk and coif for that helmet and gauntlets (which I also still own) in the late 80's. English Civil War pot helms had a quite prominent bill (which was great for keeping the sun out of my eyes, by the way). I knew I made a mistake the first time I cut it....

Peter, since "I don't care much about true historical accuracy in the stitching technique" - use a sewing machine, not hand stitching. Seriously. If you're going to take the many, many hours necessary to hand-stitch a tent, you might as well use an historical stitching technique. Otherwise, your "h...

Unrolled edges of steel elbows and knees kill more rattan than that helm. If the edge is unrolled because of the trimming that was done to it then weld a piece of 1/4" to the edge and sand the weld smooth. Then it it no worse than any other bar grill. Other than that it would be a lot of work to con...
