It's not plastic, it's aircraft aluminum...

But a lot of people think it's plastic.. which is a reason I may chuck it.

Was also thinking of doing the leather in between each row, and I should edge it since I have the leather to do so.

Maybe remove the bottom row, add a strip of leather that attached to the new bottom, and put the old bottom on the bottom of the leather strip.

Add belt.

I tried wearing a belt with it for a bit, it just slid down and fell off.

Man, you've got style. I like the stitching around each lame on the spaulders. -Graedwyn Thanks, they're actually layered because I like how it looks and it allows me to do a 2 color deal on them. So it's like 11 oz base, with a smaller piece that I tool that's like 4oz, that I then stitch on. Then...

Thanks for all the comments.

I understand there will be many combinations of sword lengths, but I just wanted to get a broad brushstroke for why some people use these lengths in hopes it may help me narrow my search for my perfect sword.

I'm going to try a 35" and see how it feels.

My Lamellar - It's bugging me.

Ok I'm a bit ridiculous when it comes to how I want to look on the field, also don't mind the crazy texture picture. But something is bugging me about how my lamellar looks, not sure if it's how I've done the pattern, to wide somewhere, not long enough somewhere... it's just giving me a right headac...

How Long is your Sword?

Curious, I'm still trying to find the length and weight I enjoy. My wraps are great with a 37" 1.25" x 1.75" stick, but my combos suck and I'm pretty sloppy. With a 33.5" sword I was starting to get some combos, it was quicker, didn't take as much work, felt good, but I lost my w...

Wish I could get some combos going like you have there Ewan, I'm way to much of a one shot kind of person, I have to break that, it feels terrible.

I also don't look comfortable fighting you.

A fun fight though.

Using that gel antique from Tandy usually.

Veeeerry liberal amounts, and try on purpose to avoid an even coat so the surface gets more of an antique feel, splotched but not tooo splotched.

No, not my own... the chain is mine, the cuirass is not. Though it has me pondering ideas for a leather body piece, I don't wear shoulder armor though.

Leather Armor

Some leather armor I did recently, not period specific but spiffy I think. Didn't make the chain or tunic (though the trim on the chain I did). You LIKE doing the tooling? Have you been hit in the head with rattan one too many times? I'm not a big fan of doing the actual tooling. When I start out, all I can think of is just how much more I have left to do and it gets depressing. About 3/4 of the way through I swear I will never do it again...

Ya, I'd love to just throw down and order it but I'm always broke. Trading custom leather goods works a lot better, especially if people want at on of leather tooling, which I love doing.

Trade 1st, buy 2nd. ;)

It's on my list, depends if money or trades comes along first.

WTB / WTT: Aventail / Camail? (my terminology may be off)

I'm thinking of attaching a flat ring, rivetted chain 'aventail/camail" to m helm, hiding the back half of the helm, and the grill bellow the occulars. I'd prefer to trade for one, and have been pretty successful at trading for gear so far. But I'll ponder prices. Heck, even a post to make sure...

Nobody told me how to put the blade in the saw... sooo.... I'm just pinching it at one end, pinching it at the other, then pull a bit apart to give tension, then tightening to lock the tension.

Cutting 14 Gauge Brass, tips?

I need something that can cut some decent curves into brass, nothing crazy, nothing huge, any thoughts? I've used a jewellers saw twice, broke the blades twice, and have been fairly annoyed with it. Something I can just put down and saw through. I've borrowed a Makita SJ401 from a friend, but I thin...

Chasing & Repousse - Newbie Help

So I'm finally going to start doing some chasing & repousse. Mainly, I'll start with chasing a flat piece of brass for a nasal. This is my current plan, stop me if I'm wrong. Clamp a piece of brass onto an anvil... use chasing tools to chase the brass. Seems pretty straight forward to me... make...

Depends what you're using it for.

If it's non-combat, use rapid rivets and you don't need washer.

If it's combat, I always use a washer with peening rivets... almost..

Personally I'd seperate the 6 colors into seperate pictures and add an ALT tag on each so they show what they are. I can assume what they are, but who knows.

Leg Wraps <insert appropriate name>

Norse persona, looking for some kind of wraps for my foot/shin/calf area.

What are good options out there? I've been thinking of just buying fabric, or martial arts wraps, or horse wraps... but figured I'd ask before doing something dumb.
