Wear... over.... unnecessary. Now, mine's banded, so there's a thin layer of leather... but generally speaking, supplemental layers are simply some minor padding, if that. Of course, the weight of steel is an ADVANTAGE here.... I don't wear my rivetted chain for protection, I wear it's 15lbs for lo...

Aluminum Anodized Brass.

And I can't speak for the wearers of those lamellar suits, but I imagine they're anodized if they're brass. Since brass isn't exactly my first choice for weight and durability.

I wear lamellar over a flat ring rivetted chain shirt, so I went aluminum.

Not sure what the weight difference would be in the end, but figured if I have a 15lb shirt I'd like to keep the lamellar lighter.

New Helm - How to pad it.

I'm bumping this thread because it's of current importance to me. All I've ever padded with is foam, and my head is usually an oven. --- I have purchased a pretty new helm from Shamrock, and figure I should pad it the best possible way for protection and comfort. If anyone has any further informatio...

I think I've found the helm I want on shamrock.

I had actually seen that helm before and pondered it, after a second look, I'm interested.

Also after my eyebrows keep getting sliced open from the cage being welded to the inside of the helm, I've had it. heh

Wanted: Occular Spangen

I've seen the white mountain one here, just something not doing it for me. My dream helm is a knotwolf look, pitted, greys, blacks, and brass, occular. I really like the slat back style helms, for instance I love the top and back of the Zweillhammer(sp?) kit. I have a 24" head, and almost had a...

It looks very well made. But, I find myself drawn to the massive hardware on the piece. The huge buckles and tips seem to overpower it. Point taken. There's 2 different size buckles on it and I was contemplating using the smaller buckle on both the front and back near the bottom instead of the larg...

I believe that leather armor should be about sixty percent more expensive than it is. It is only the very small barriers to market entry that keep our expectations so high, price wise. There is always some young, hungry turk ready to jump into the market and undercut everybody's prices. f My prices...

Wait. Do you want the lamellae tooled or just some part of the cuirass? Because tooling individual lamellae will probably not be cheap. I tried printing to tracing film with my ink jet with terrible results a while ago, I didn't think it would work but figured "what the hey!" So I just tossed my inkjet since it's $100 to replace the stupid ink and bought a $65 laser printer. I taped some tracing film to a piece of paper, a...

My own 2 cents having done a bit of rapier and a lot of heavy. The Rapier community here has actual practices that have structure and multiple days and a place to go. The heavy practices are more of a fight night. So if you want to get very good doing heavy, it's a lot of alone time doing drills. Ra...

No, it's not for everyone. Just like various sports aren't for everyone.

Or any physical activity... heck.. is belly dancing for everyone? I might like to watch as a spectator, but you'll never see me belly dancing and you can thank the gods for that.
