Of course Reconstructing History sells a pattern too which encompasses not only the style I mention above but others as well. It may have better instructions. Thanks, Tom. (Here's your five bucks!) Suffice it to say, Cilléne, if you want, there are a couple of products we have which might make you...

And a shot of one of my soft kits...critique away! 1. I'll second what Tom said about the belt. I know you explained about the belt. However, that's going to go a long way toward improving the overall look. Heck, if you just made a couple of 'keepers' - loops to hold the free running end parallel w...

Christopher: Give us some time. We'll get there. SteelBonnet: I cannot give you a definitive answer as to how early the separate spur straps and 'butterflies' go. I have seen them pre-1600 in portraiture, but my notes are not on this machine. The spur straps on our boots are removable. They slip ove...

As yet, no. We're trying to complete our goal of being the "16th Century Superstore" before we branch too much further back.
In 2011 we plan on adding a LOT more styles of shoes and leather goods. Keep an eye on our website!

Brewer, I wanna make sure I understand you - are you saying that hat is described in some texts in the timeframe? No; I thought you were saying that when you used the name 'bycocket'. And yes, the artists perogative is being considered here. It just struck me that of the pieces of art we do have fr...

How about a whole sword? I've one sitting in the garage I'm not going to ever use again. It's got a solid mild-steel basket on it that looks a lot like this: http://p7.hostingprod.com/@illusionarmoring.com/shealbh.JPG Good stick, not pulped. Lots of life in it. Call it $20 for shipping via USPS Prio...

Hello Bob, Would you happen to have a more appropriate boot for late 16th century? Say around 1580 spanish? -Alvar Unfortunately, I don't have a very good idea of what ca. 1580 Spanish footwear looked like. In any case, these boots are the only boots I've got. (At the moment, that is; there are Pla...

Mackenzie: They run a bit large. I usually take a 12 Wide. I ended up with their size 11; with two pairs of socks they fit fine. They were a bit tight across the instep until they broke in. Answers: These are appropriate for say 1588? Not really, no. They are post-1600, rather closer to the 1620s, to my eye. They are, however, a hell of a lot closer than other available boots at this price point. Do you have them in black? I do not have them in black. I have not tried dyeing this leath...

Cian makes a good point. There are people who complain about being poor - and I'm not specifically referring to you, Christopher! - who really aren't. That cup of coffee at the convenience store on the way into work? $2x5 days per week = $10 per week = $520 per year. Brew your own. Smoke a pack a da...

Depending on your budget it's usualy cheaper to save up for the riveted stuff insead of investing the time/materials to construct something you will replace later. Say this over and over and over again. I know it's tempting - you want maille NOW, dammit! But spending money on wrong stuff is throwin...

Er, ties. You can use ribbon, twill tape, self ties (ties made from strips of the same fabric as your breeches), etc. You can put 'em in a drawstring-type case, lace 'em through eyelets on either side of a slit opening on the outside of the leg, sew 'em to either side of a side opening, etc. I like ...

Tasha is right - the more you agitate it the more the wool will full (get fuzzy). If you want to wash it to remove the processing chemicals - that's the stuff that makes most people itch - gentle hand-washing with a very, very mild detergent like baby shampoo will do the trick. Don't wring it! A pro...

Your drawing makes me pretty green. For a first attempt, that's pretty damned impressive! Well done! If I might hazard a bit of advice: Don't bother mixing your own inks. Making ink is messy, stinky and might frighten or piss off your neighbors. Jars of chemicals (you can't just go to the corner sto...
