The greaves are splinted, with gaps between the plates, and held together with straps. The straps could be leather, but it is also possible for them to be woven.

Do you have "The Armourer and his Craft" by Charles Ffoulkes? it is an excellen source for armourers marks. Aaron Dover has printed an edition, so it shouldn't be hard to get. I bought a hardback in the 80's, and I asked my mom to pick up A&A titles when she went to Spain and England ...

Most of the surviving liners I've seen pictures of, are constructed pretty much the same way. The differences are primarily in the geometry of the helmet.

You are pretty much right on the origin. I've seen a number of depictions contemporary with this. Eventually, the 'wrapper' gets a more solid attachment to greathelms.

Try a drill bit in a drill press. Low speed, high pressure and oil. That is how I would do titanium. ;)

I agree with the mispunch assumption.

That helmet looks really weird. I don't think the visor and the helm belong together, I think they have been combined from two different finds. The visor just sits (based on the eyeslot) way too low.

Check your kingdom's marshal's handbook. It would certainly violate any rules about being 'blatantly mundane'. It may not be enforced, although I think it should against weapons colored like that.
