To quote The Kensei, Miyamoto Musashi, there is no "wood-chopping stroke", or man-cutting stroke", there is only cutting. I am one of the few in Calontir that participates in fencing (either in my backyard, or out of kingdom for obvious reasons). I easily understood what SyrRhys said about the diffe...

Inconel and Monel make some awful tough rivets. Try using a hammer to peen titanium rivets sometime. You may dent your hammer.

I imagine it may depend on exactly which ones you are making. Mine are Milanese, yours may be different. The large plate, and the 2 above it have sliding rivets on the rear, a strap down the center, and a strap towards the front edge. The tandy rivets get put in under the overlap, so they aren't vis...

Spears in Greek Phalanx discussed in Chat

http://www.fordham.edu/halsall/ancient/polybius-maniple.html This is by Polybius, the Greek historian: "Many considerations may easily convince us that, if only the phalanx has its proper formation and strength, nothing can resist it face to face or withstand its charge. For as a man in close order...

I've used 3M spray glue and contact cement to glue fabric on. Both work okay, contact cement is more work to remove. Upholstery fabric would last forever, but eventually take enough damage that it wouldn't look good. Stay away from white. Image

It's not a rumour. You can't use a military steel helmet as a base for a SCA fighting helmet. They were banned about 15+ years ago.

There is a great deal that can go wrong with a sword blow, so you need to learn the proper mechanics in order to make sure the shots land with enough force. S&S is the required first autorization here, so you need to learn how to work the two in harmony. Here, at least, it isn't too long before the ...

Mordreth, how did you construct it? It is essentially a mass weapon, and I would like to make perform like one, but not be so heavy as to be unsafe. It looks like a glaive with a 15-18" handle to me.

One of the most effective techniques I've found is to reverse the blade (blade below left hand against RH S&S), and apply vector analysis against their sword arm. Image

The best solution is, as mentioned, to suck away the dust while it is being made, as close to the source as is possible. Wearing a mask while making the dust is advisable, as mentioned as well.
