I rather doubt that we (SCA, but this probably applies to any similar org.) will ever be scholarly or historical enough to gain praise (as a whole) from academia. So what? We don't have to educate to that level to be educational. The goal for the next Lilies War is to have something on the order of ...

I'm not sure which suit it is, (His "butt suit"?) but when it was checked they determined that hardening had been attempted, but the attempt failed.

Roman Empire bastard swords

Awhile back there was a topic about early bs/gs. I was looking at a book today and saw a stone carving from c300AD, "The Tetrarchs, Diocletian, and Companions (?)". They all had swords that the blades went from about the hip to nearly the ankle, and the hilts were obviously long enough for a two han...

The bronze at The Yard tends to be "Whoknowswhat" brand TM... Much of it is from the aircraft plants in the area.

I love bronze age stuff as well, even if it is really outside the scope of the SCA.

JP, you obviously need a pair of Glendour's gauntlets! (This is a crass unpaid commercial plug.).

His thumbs are damned good, I've actually talked him into selling a guy a pair of them to upgrade his gauntlets.

Roderick makes a welded thumb that looks like it ought to work well too.

Just wondering about fumes. I plan on doing a little forge work on some bronze. Besides beryllium, are there any kinds that I need to worry about? I really don't like the large plate on the pauldrons. On the back, it is pointing outward, basically protecting nothing, when it should be angled inward covering the shoulder blade.

Of course that's just my opinion.

I intend to hit you with the edge of my blade, if I hit you with the flat, I am doing something wrong. At the very least I am not using the proper technique to deliver a certain amount of force to my target.

I shave all of my rattan. My rattan swords work like swords, not round sticks.

Seriously, something like that should be done by someone nearby for fitting purposes. It's a little more specialized than regular armor, and has to fit closer.

Not that I'm opposed to looking, mind you, but the job should be done right.
