Remember, proof means tested, not inpenetrable. Rifle rounds will go through bp vests. One reason is speed, the other is bullet shape. Vests I, II, IIIa are tested against specific size, shape, weight and speed of bullet. Rifle bullets tend to be pointed rather than round or hollow points. There is ...

You are absolutely right! It's to keep from having your damn fool head from coming off. Sometimes it is a solid piece that covers the shoulder, upper arm, and chest, and other times it is removable and attaches to the upper portion of the pauldron.

Morgan, I just had an evil thought! Make the point on your spear just a little convex, and mark it or the grip so you know how it is oriented. When it hits their thigh, it will be less likely to glance, and they will have little choice. http://www.armourarchive.org/ubb/biggrin.gif Also, when possibl...

I have people take my spear shots all the time. If you have trouble getting them take them shots to the thigh, move the shot up to the juncture of the thigh and pelvis. That little crease will catch the shot better than a basically rounded surface of a thigh. I did hit a guy there ONCE and he bent o...

You do not want it touching your neck, it won't absorb jack moving, you will get hurt. For steel, I would say that 14g 3/8" would be fine, 16g 1/4" would look better- and be the gold standard for period mail. If you back it with leather or cloth, it will protect the stuff you wear on your shoulders ...
