They were probably put in there in the most expedient manner possible. It was hot, they were dead (and didn't care), and they stunk. The armor was old, out of fashion and considered obsolesent. It was worn by the reserves since the real army was away somewhere else. They were attacked by the enemy f...

I put it on from the baskethilt all the way down the front, over the top, and back down the back edge 6" or so. It covers almost all of the cutting edge I will likely strike with. I get it locally by the foot, I haven't a clue where you would get it in CA. I strike at range quite a lot (ask Morgan!)...

I recently started putting some 1" wide webbing on my swords. They are new, so I don't know if they are lasting longer yet, but the tape seems to hold up a little better. I also play a lot of range games and use my thrusting tips. It seems that the thrusters are holding up much better.

One reason I use BH is for hand protection. One thing that results from that is it helps balance the sword, which would not work effectively with leather, or plastic.

I have seen cour boulli bh, and they seem to work.

I recently cut out 5 complete pairs of gauntlets (plus a couple extra parts) from a 22 1/2 pound sheet of 18g ss. After deburring, I had about 16 1/2 pounds of parts. No effect whatsoever. Armor is a durable, luxury good. If people have the money and desire, they will buy it.

Now if the price of gas went through the roof it would sure as hell hurt the SCA.
