All accounts from German broadsheets.

And it wasn't a Jew -- it was (IIRC) a Turkish delegation.

You did a pretty decent job on it, very nice. I think it would be better if it was dished about 1" or so more but I haven't done leather that nice, so I have no idea how hard that would be.

It is far, far better than average. 8)

The visor on the salet is odd, later replacement? Old, but not original, I think. 'Modernly' composed of period parts? The only thing that bothers me on the second is the swoop on the forward brim. But there are enough variations in hats in that era that there is no reason it could not be authentic....

Just off-hand, I don't recall any depictions of centergrip round shields in ancient Greek art. Most of them went from shoulder to knee, or thereabouts. This is why they wore greaves, and helmets with the shields, it gave them very good coverage, and very little in the way of exposed targets.

Look in The Triumphs of Maximillian, by Burghkmair(sp?), and you will find it a common shape, especially for German hunting knives.

The Woodsman's Pal is also a very period design.

Duke Conn MacNeil/Bob Charron's Fiore has applicability. Some of it they won't allow us to have fun with, though. I fight a fair amount of sword&buckler and see some of the stuff I do in I33. The Dec/Jan issue of Machinist's Workshop has a very neat way to make a base for an anvil that makes it easy to wheel around. They made an aluminum frame for the top and bottom, put two steel wheels on one side, and a removable trailer jack opposite. Put the jack on when you want to move it, jack it...

It is also the recommended way to make things like 4'x8' surface plates (made of THICK granite) level. Three points will always be stable if you try to make it anywhere near level. Four points? Much harder to keep it from rocking.
