I have yet to run into someone that tried to pick me apart. I doubt i would be kind, gentle or nice to them. "that tunic looks bad, the wool is a 3/2 twill, and it wasnt used.." "excuse me, did i ask for your opinion harpy?" and walk away. If I ask, or you approach me in a pleasant way "gee, you kno...

Was leather everused as an armour? Yes. Do we have many finds of it? No. Same way we dont have many clothing finds, of shoe finds, ESP of an earlier era. I THINK (though i could be wrong) that we have definate written accounts of leather armour, and possibly leather lammelar in the east. (i know the...

By "real" I'm assuming you mean authentic period (ie from back in the day). Your best bet would be to contact the larger auction houses, and see if they have any armour coming up on the block. at this point, the armour is going to be either held by a museum, or a private collector. Both realize its ...

I'm assuming you mean fredrich barbarosa, king of germany throught the third crusade? (the one who fell form his horse and drowned due to the weight of his armour?) I dont know off hand, BUT I will qualify that the old, out of shape, grossly overweight aspects of the king probably had more to do wit...

Here are some thoughts on equivilency: they want the helm to have a certain weight, and a certain resistance to denting. So what are equivilents? Lead plated titanium? A 10GA stainless skull with 18ga hardened spring skirt? 17 GA helm with really big honkin bars? It would be nice if they had a more ...

it should work... although, as aidan said, i would be wary of a low temp melting wax... all you're doing is using saturation hardening, no chance of denaturization. Buy canning parrafin (add stearate if you want) and soak your leather in it for a good while, until it stops foaming... that's the way ...
