I wasnt doubting he had seen sources, I just wanted him to objectively consider his sources. I will say that I'm pretty damn sure that there was very little 100% cotton cloth in northern europe. I tend to believe that the mediterrainian area would probably have more of a chance to use cotton. (i als...

Old school bricks were pretty damn fire resistant (look at old chimneys) the newer bricks have holes in them which may account for the problem, also there may be an issue with the method of making them. Most of your newer homes with brick chimneys have firebrick liners (you dont normally notice, due...

Something to remember when researching things like this is that 'cotton' was a form of wool cloth at the time. Was it? How have historians arrived at this ascertation? Are there records of women using wool to make "cotton"? Or is it pictorial evidence? Or is it merely someone supposing that it woul...

I dont see where it would be a real problem... it just modifies the final bout of an otherwise normal crown tourney. Of course I can see the "winner" being a real prick, and being nasty to the "loser's" side. I can also see duke sir rhino not having a whole lot of support during the battle. As an as...

And if you want silk... look here: http://www.dharmatrading.com/silk_fabrics.html On the topic of wool...its not as uncomfortable as you'd think, depending on weave, thickness etc. I'm not sure on this one, but i think cotton was used in some locales near the mediterrainean. Of course I'm sure that ...

I think some people may be missing the point here. Getting the plates stamped only makes financial sense if we order a LARGE amount. otherwise the chap who wanted 900 chinese star scals will have to pay the several thousand dollar die fee, and then get the plates for 10c per. of course his price per...

well as to planning for the shrikage due to stuffing there is a very simple realtionship. The most you can stuff a channel results in a circular tube. this circle is formed equally from the fronting and backing. thus the fabric used must be equal to the sum of the half circumfrences. of course, we t...

Clay, i think you mighta missed something... these arms are supposed to be removable, much like doublet sleeves. My guess would be an occasional lace run through the maille and thru the undergarment. this would prevent the afforementioned "bunching" and would be almost invisible to the naked eye... ...

To be honest, for the type of fighting you do (and this is totally based upon my opinion) I'd say get the thickest stuff you can. here is a place to get 15/17 oz 20-22 sqft sides for 80 bux. http://www.TWLeather.com/twlstar.htm If you want to go thinner, and dont mind it not being terribly period, t...

<i>The White Scarf Treaty has to do with recognition of rapier awards, so it doesn't affect the KSCA/MSCA distinction. Does Meridies have 'Dons'? (White Scarfers?) Just curious. </i> That's a big NO. The reason I tossed it in was that its another fighting award that isnt available. (to be honest, we...

Hey Rev, do you do banners and if you do what is the pricing? Yes, in fact I do. As to pricing, it depends on what you want. a pennon bearing the arms: argent will obviously be cheaper than a standars bearing the kingdombadge of meridies, and the arms: within a bordure pean, gyrronny argent and gul...
