Chef: I believe his point was that civil war folx have it a bit easier, as there was photography at the time. you dont have to wonder if the painting is "artistically" liscenced. (a good example is clothing. medieval pictures of clothing rarely if ever show gore lines, or even pattern mismatches due...

do we have some sort of cost ratio of the birka order? IE of the X cents per plate: how much went to the die? how much went to the metal? how much went to the labour? If it comes out that 80 % of the cost went to labour, then perhaps making a wider plate would be more cost effective (100 3" wide pla...

We are all not SCA. (even if we were he could be a pelican, or an MOA). I believe the "Master" in his title is a real world appelation (IE he is a young man under 18.<i>IE</ie>: "Young master william, your father wishes to speak to you in the drawing room")

I think it's an Americanism, and has no place in medieval reinactment. Would it be better if you could become a knight w/o having to swear fealty? Sounds like the idea to me. You can still wear the belt and spurs but no chain. then you can apply the title "master" to fencing peers. there were "maste...

Rev George -- I am not terribly good at persona play; I am much better at research (yes, we early-period people do that too when we aren't busy painting our nikes bright pink). And there is no indication of Russian princes ordering their troops to dress in certain colours. Heck, they didn't even ha...

sounds like a good idea, but of course there are melees where midrealm fighters fight midrealm fighters.. a better idea would be to require every fighter to have a reversible tabard, say red on one side, white on the otrher. that way when you choose sides, one is red, the other white. (other kingdom...

The baldric symbolizes the title "master of arms" when offered elevation to the chivalry, the candidate MUST be offered to become either a knight, or a master of arms, the difference being that Knights swear fealty to the crown, while masters do not (I have heard of some MOA's swearing fealty to the...

Attention Meridean Chivalry/ Royal Peers (you too!)

In 2 other threads it's been mentioned that Fair Meridies has no Masters of Arms. (we also havent signed the whitescarf treaty) Its been Implied/said that this is because the chivalry/royalty want it that way. Any insight to this? I mean if it's super secret "round table" stuff, that's cool, but inq...

I am almost positive that we do not have a Master at Arms in Meridies (correct me if I am wrong), and since we are mercenaries no swearing fealty, so no knighthood.
