Ahh... a cool half mil. First I think i'd finish school , buy a new car/truck/urban assault vehicle (whatever i felt like at the time, but only one) and buy a house here in athens. With the 350K left, I'd buy an old peach orchard, or some other worn out farmland in GA (really what ever would get me ...

Well, what would be kinda cool would be maybe a book that combines 3 or 4 shorter works (50-60 pages long) into one volume. (like maybe 3 short works on fighting styles, or the like) Another grandiose idea would be to reprint some of the period fighting manuals with full colour photos of people exec...

Well, based on this last post by Chandos, I'll hold off on making an offer on producing the plates until someone enlightens me to what the hell is going on... Some time ago, Nim asked for help/ armour in the chat (i think chandos was in there at that time) Being an upstanding Gent, I offered to the...

As someone who's used them all of twice They rock. long straight cuts can be difficult w/o a table or buddy to help manuever the steel (when i say long, i do mean long) As for wastage, it all depends on how you lay out patterns. If you put an elbow cop in the middle of a sheet, then yes, there will ...

Bizzaro idea/ question: What if you swore fealty to the empty throne. (ie after a king stepped down, and before another stepped up) Of couse, it would change the way our soverns are crowned (which might be interesting, the current crown "stepping down" to be regent, until such time as a suitable hei...

there are a couple options to look good on a budget: 1. Order from ron simmons (you get dished halves) 2. Cut a band out of the spundome to give it an ovaloid shape. 3. Make a cool romanish helm. Of course the first 2 require you rivett the halves together, mking a ridge helm, or a pseudo spangen......

Preservation technology
I'm interested in jumps in preservation technology AFTER 1600. (ie refrigeration, freezedrying, etc) but before 1900. Why? Mainly to provide a simple, easily understood, reason why the statement "all medieval food was made of half rotten meat" is false. I mean no one believes that all civil war era ...

There's something different in having a muscician perform, and milling about talking, etc. one might argue that its even period. of course if this is a staged performance, it is kinda rude. Drowning out a muscisian because of whatever reason, ESP if done by a boombox, is just plain rude. If done by ...

Norm: from what I remeber, its a later period roman helm. (later period as in gaius caligulus, not as in henry they were spun from sheets of brass/ bronze/ cupric alloy #7 and often had the hole left in the top. Clay put me down for the "how the hell would a person know" arguement. I'd wager over 90% of the folx out there, seeing you at an SCA evnt, with SCA related wares will assume you are in the SCA. Problem with the soaking is that it's against the SCA rules. You maynot soak or otherwise treat the rattan in a manner that signifigantly reduces its flexibility.
