As I understand, Karl actually outsources production of a lot of his items to indian manufacturers. And, just like SOFC, if you supervise them, and make sure they are paid enough they'll make the items in any gauge you want.

As I understand,
carding results in shorter fibres, which will make thicker thread. Combing orients the fibres , and lends otself to longer fibers, wich can make thinner thread.

well, actually, if you are going to use a battery of batteries (yes that's proper usage) there is no reason to even bother moving cables, just wire them in parallel (pos to pos, neg to neg etc to the end) and they will provide the nominal 12 volts for a longer period.
