i cut quarter inch plywood into planks, staned them all similar but slightly difrent shades and glued them onto another piece of 1/4 inch. worked out well, lasted a good while with thick rawhide edgeding.

I have, it doesn't really do what you think it does. kinda looks like a pink strainer. Unless your black which might look allright. I put chainmail over mine and it made it look sexy.
