Philosophically I agree with what you're saying about getting worked up, Gavin, but realistically, that's the problem. We get hit with these rule changes that are pretty close to "immediately to be implemented" and that's the way it is. After a few times, folks start to look at pre-emptive strikes o...

What Richard said. Anyone who doesn't think the lower halves of an armet aren't a chin strap have never put on an armet. An armet doens't fit "snugly." You can't get the helm off without taking the head with it.

Alcy... Jurgen is reasonable tall and thin... yeah, a little like Forrest! LOL

Thanks for that suggestion, Paul. I'll show him, but I think he was hoping for something open faced... he wants to do combat archery and wants the best full visability. Should have specified. But it's a great suggestion for others who may read this. I've owned an illusions basic bascinet. I'll grant...

wanted: beginner helms that aren't ugly spundomes (SCA)

I've got a young man in my local group who's looking for a helm. He's interested in something that's nicer than the $100 spun dome generi-monstrosity, but he's only looking to spend say 150-225. Who's making decently nice helms in this range right now? Please provide links and I'll pass them along t...

Quite frankly I think all of society level officers should institute the commentary period that the BOD uses for changes to the governing documents. Of course there would need to be some obvious...

If I hit someone with a 4th shot while they're trying to call the first, I start to feel a little bad. I don't feel bad about the 2nd shot and unless they're REALLY fast to call the first, I don't feel bad about the 3rd. LOL

I will state for the record that I'm MUCH more likely to call off a shot that didn't have a chance of penetrating the face or glanced off high off the top of the helm than I am to inquire on a shot that landed squarely on something. IE, I'm dozens of times more likely to call off targeting than forc...

Without meaning to be confrontational, how is this not just another aspect of calling a shot? As Falcone already argued, if we are loathe to correct our opponent for not acknowledging a blow we felt was good, why is it acceptable to tell them they were wrong if they fall to a shot we thought was in...

Sir Kief of Ansteorra fights single sword pretty close to exclusively. But he's got but one leg, so his non-sword hand is quite busy holding his crutch. Don't let that fool you, he's tough as hell.

for lack of a better word, I used "embarrassed" but it's not quite what I meant. But there is an expectation that knights are the best of the kingdom. Therefore there is an expectation that they will fight well, and most certainly better than average. Some people feel a great deal of responsability ...

It's not less pressure, it's MORE pressure. You are now a Knight of (Insert Kingdom Here) and you're expected to be seen as such. Entering a tourney and getting your butt kicked by an unbelted fighter is now embarrassing (to some degree and to some people.) The belt isn't an end, it's just a recogni...

Yes, indeed, no argument about it, "The (tm) Finals" is the last 2.

But there is no other way to really well describe a final three other than "Round Robin Finals" and that's how it's generally described. I don't mean to make a semantic argument, but there it is. LOL

Just an interesting note, there were some "field tests" done in the early days of the SCA concerning the effectiveness of mail.
