Syrus...I don't have a clue what you're trying to say. http://www.armourarchive.org/ubb/smile.gif Raymond...Yeah, it's an interesting debate. Particularily the point about the fact that one is grabbing with a non-target. The way I approach the subject is this: It's currently legal. Therefore, as a l...

Yeah, it depends on what you WANT. You want a bastard sword? You want a claymore? You want a zweihander? (I'm sure I spelled that wrong)... what are you trying to recreate? As for "the best length to fight with" well, there is no such thing. Any arbigrary measurements like "up to your chin" are b.s....

Yeah, it sounds neat. And I can poke a million holes into it for various reasons that do NOT invalidate it as a method. http://www.armourarchive.org/ubb/smile.gif Just like I can poke holes in the way the SCA picks its kings and any other organization. BUt that does sound like fun. I don't get your ...

1) Should the SCA reenact wars in addition to tournaments/grand melees? Sure, why not. I tend to lean toward perferring just grand melee personally, but I don't like excluding people who want to play. 2)a) Should we keep the existing rules and not change a thing? No...I think some tweaks would help....

And you, Cap'n, are assuming that the best leader makes the best KING. http://www.armourarchive.org/ubb/smile.gif I think we've had more than enough evidence from the various groups to prove that there's no way to avoid complete ass-holes from mucking things up for the rest of us. http://www.armoura...

I'm curious because the East kingdom rule say if you drop your weapon three times, you're forced to yeild. Would that not be enforced in this instance?

Looks entertaining...but I don't think I can agree with the heading "steel fought harder than rattan"...unless you're talking about the steel of the ARMOUR of the guy who does the bull rush to slam the guy to the ground. Rattan fighters COULD do that as well....the steel sword has nothing to do with...

Richard: Thanks for the clarification. The way the previous discussion had gone, essentially there were people who said "If someone grabs the haft of your pole arm to control it (not to rip it out of your hands, just control) one should release the pole arm to cause a hold." That's obviously very di...

I have to agree with Noe on this point. In fact, many if not most or all kingdoms have rules about people who intentionally get disarmed or run out of bounds...many even say if this happens 3 times in a bout, they've automatically yeilded...but I've also heard that many if not most or all kingdoms d...

See, I think "Heavy Fighter" is the umbrella statement for anyone who puts on armour of any kind, authorizes to swing a rattan stick at their friends in the SCA. Vermin...you've missed the most important point. We're using shorthand to discuss this. The real argument here is not "Is this war or is this a tourney?" I've always been a fan of helms without chin straps, personally. http://www.armourarchive.org/ubb/smile.gif Good advice in general above. 2 things: 1) Consult your kingdom's Marshall handbook. There may be local rules you'll want to follow...like what Losthelm said, you may have a strap width rule. ...

My take would be this: Both "stick" and "jock" are mundane modern terms. Therefore, it would be my interpretation of the term that a stick jock is someone who is only interested in the athletic aspect of what we're doing, which is fighting with a stick in some form of armour. Furthermore, their inte...

Barony of the Steppes, Ansteorra. Our loaner gear is low maintenance low authenticity plastic stuff. It protects well and includes cuisses and chest protections. It's in good condition.
