Like I said, historically there IS no difference between armet and close. They're differet versions of the same helm. Close is a much more modern term. It'd be like if cave men using a stick called the stick a zog. Just because WE TODAY call the big stick a "whomping stick" and the small stick a "wh...

Greyholt...I believe you'll find that this "problem" is caused primarily because from a historical perspective, both the what we call the armet and what we call the close were both called "armet". There was no historical differentiation.

And speaking as a person who fights in 2 Sinric helms...a close with breaths and an armet without, breathing really isn't a big deal. Anyone who says you need holes in your helm to breathe has simply not trained themself to avoid a normal psycho-sematic reaction to breathing hot air. ---------------...

Costume...depends on how high the price goes on the helm. The arms are vaguly worthless for costume.
SCA Dress...I think that helm is out of period...

The SCA rule Olaf quoted is identical in Ansteorra as well...no hold, see through, or mirror polish.

Cool pic.

Doing the image isn't any different than doing the link. You just use instead of the ones and the location of the actual picture.

I'm NEVER as tired at a tourney as I am at fighter practice, which is almost always at full speed. We have tech practice night for non-full speed work.

Some people stand and hold a shield up while watching TV. If you do that for as long as you can a few times while watching your fav shows (if you are a tv watcher, that is) it's productive physically instead of being a couch potato.

I personally think 4" would be WAY too much curve. I have a 20"x40" 6061 T-6 1/8" thick aluminium curved centerboss heater. I love the hell out of it. It's the first shield I've fought with that I really really like. I had it rolled very gradually to put the curve in it. Loads of fun. --------------...

Gargoyle..the brass rivets for the cross shouldn't be ANY problem because they're not structural in nature. You could use crayons stuffed in the holes and they'd be legal. Of course your cross would fall off a lot. : )

Actually, it was 10 blows, and whomever had more of thier 10 thrown shots score won. IE, the final score could be 7-3. One fighter threw his 10 shots first, then his opponent threw his own ten. Nobody that I know of has ever documented that particular type of counted blow tourney. The SCA does have ...

Living in the land of heat, my method is simple. My cloth stuff consists of a long sleeved tshirt and sweats. I bring a pair for every day of fighting.
