Like I said, historically there IS no difference between armet and close. They're differet versions of the same helm. Close is a much more modern term. It'd be like if cave men using a stick called the stick a zog. Just because WE TODAY call the big stick a "whomping stick" and the small stick a "wh...
Greyholt...I believe you'll find that this "problem" is caused primarily because from a historical perspective, both the what we call the armet and what we call the close were both called "armet". There was no historical differentiation.
And speaking as a person who fights in 2 Sinric helms...a close with breaths and an armet without, breathing really isn't a big deal. Anyone who says you need holes in your helm to breathe has simply not trained themself to avoid a normal psycho-sematic reaction to breathing hot air. ---------------...
Hm. Costume...depends on how high the price goes on the helm. The arms are vaguly worthless for costume. SCA Dress...I think that helm is out of period... LARP: I'm not a larper, so I can't answer that one.
I'm NEVER as tired at a tourney as I am at fighter practice, which is almost always at full speed. We have tech practice night for non-full speed work.
Some people stand and hold a shield up while watching TV. If you do that for as long as you can a few times while watching your fav shows (if you are a tv watcher, that is) it's productive physically instead of being a couch potato.
I personally think 4" would be WAY too much curve. I have a 20"x40" 6061 T-6 1/8" thick aluminium curved centerboss heater. I love the hell out of it. It's the first shield I've fought with that I really really like. I had it rolled very gradually to put the curve in it. Loads of fun. --------------...
Eric...next time you're typing out a post, take a look to the right. You'll see a link that says *UBB Code is ON. Click there and it gives you very easy instructions on how to make the link yourself.
I'd agree with Talath. The Scotty method doesn't work as well. It can easily cost you business. You think you need 2 months to make the helm so you tell me 20 months? I go somewhere else. http://www.armourarchive.org/ubb/smile.gif Scotty method works well for internal customer support and a LITTLE f...
Hehehe....yeah, I suppose people could leave site to go to a laundry, Bob..didn't think of that. I didn't truely know that Pennsic had laundry on site. Doesn't supprise me tho. Gulf Wars and Estrella do not, however. At Estrella, you'd have 1/2 hour driving to find a laundry for sure. I'm with you o...
Gargoyle..the brass rivets for the cross shouldn't be ANY problem because they're not structural in nature. You could use crayons stuffed in the holes and they'd be legal. Of course your cross would fall off a lot. : )
Llywelyn...you asked if 1200-1400 was too general. Ask yourself this.... "I want to know what kind of hat they wore in Virginia. Is 1800-2000 too general?" http://www.armourarchive.org/ubb/smile.gif ------------------ Be bold and mighty forces will come to your aid. Johann Wolfgang von Goethe http:/...
Actually, it was 10 blows, and whomever had more of thier 10 thrown shots score won. IE, the final score could be 7-3. One fighter threw his 10 shots first, then his opponent threw his own ten. Nobody that I know of has ever documented that particular type of counted blow tourney. The SCA does have ...
Living in the land of heat, my method is simple. My cloth stuff consists of a long sleeved tshirt and sweats. I bring a pair for every day of fighting. I cover that with a fighting tunic, which doesn't get too stinky too quickly with the cotton under it. If hung out to dry at events, it's good for d...
Thanks, Frau...that concept that there is some gauge requirement on other armour is somthing that blows my mind. I heard a high level notable telling a new fighter he had to use 16 gauge stainless or 14 gauge mild steel for all armour this weekend. I had to say, "Hey dude, it's just 16 gauge for a h...
I often wonder how closely people read. Occasionally guilty of this myself. http://www.armourarchive.org/ubb/smile.gif His original message is not edited, so we know it's what he posted. He said, "and it doesn't make you smell like a flower shop like febreeze does." Yet the first person to reply, LR...
My order of a Trefoil buckle w/tongue, trefoil chape and a bunch of trefoil eyelet mounts should be in my greedy little hands anyday, and I'll be posting a review. Can't wait to see them! http://www.armourarchive.org/ubb/smile.gif ------------------ Be bold and mighty forces will come to your aid. J...
