This has been a really interesting topic. Jonathan.... there is a difference between "send to the hospital" and "put in the hospital." I know that sounds funny...but in GOOD armour, people can still get broken bones, or "sent" to the hospital. It'd be a bit tougher to hit someone hard enough that th...

I actually think that jokes like that serve a purose. They threw the actions into the light before they happen, so when they do happen, our hind brains are tickled as something we've heard before, then we harken back to the "joke" and are able to say, "I KNOW you didn't just say you're not taking th...

Do a search on the name Waldryk. You'll get nearly 200 threads with his name in them. m I asked a similar question just a few months ago, and it woulnd't seem that ordering anything from him is a good idea. NOt that he won't deliever, but that there's simply no way of knowing. As Gundo says, it's be...

That's why I didn't quote anything, I was replying to the most recent post, just above mine, where Johnathon More said, "thats only because no one in the sca would know what it means. Were you planning on PLAYING with the ball or giving it as a gift? Sheesh, what an inane, pejorative, unprovable, ad hominem statement. I'm curious if you've taken a scientific poll. Because I'd be interested in the results. Of course, your statement is such that you're not saying simply, "I bet the...

Well sure... just like I don't HAVE to wear my arms, I MAY...but my arms are reserved for me, and the plain white belt is reserved for knights. But nobody is holding a gun to my head making me wear a "plain white belt"... I hope not at least, as I have a really cool white belt with awesome brass fix...

It doesn't say "reserved" anywhere but the section i cited, so if we pretend that section isn't there, it just says "regalia." Now, I could walk out of my house right now wearing a coronet with strawberry leaves, or the badge of the Order of the Garter. All speakers of English would agree that said...

Amuse me, please. Let's say the phrase isn't in there. How is "regalia reserved for the order" not sufficient? Because it doesn't say individuals IN the order may use it? I'm really curious about your logic, from a purely academic standpoint. I'm not much of a book herald, yet (I recently applied fo...

Cool...I'm good with it either way, even tho I'm personally against squires wearing unadorned chains. I think squires wearing chains adorned by their knights badges are cool as hell, btw. So, Mr. Devil's Advocate, please elucidate... How is "unadorned chain and white belt are reserved regalia" ambig...

"knight's chains"
Does anyone know of any cool merchant sites that sell various knights chanins? Woven maille links, other stuff.... I'd like to get a couple chains for various reasons, for myself on the field, as gifts, whatever. Any help would be appreciated.

Lemme get this straight. You think that because the O&A doesn't DEFINE "regalia" that means that "regalia" doesn't necessarily mean what it means everywhere else? Because the O&A doesn't define ANY word. It doesn't define what "white" is either... so that means that someone can wear a white belt and...

Yeah, I've used glue to fix sticks for a little extra life, and glued the tip of new rattan to get a bit longer life out of them, never had a problem. As Ceddie says, I'm careful to not significantly reduce the flexability. a little glue makes $6-8 in rattan last a little longer, that's cool. The re...

Just so you know, btw, there is NO SUCH THING as an "sca approved" helm. There are armourers who will guarantee that the helm they make you will pass inspection, for example, but there is no such thing as an "sca approval" for equipment. Just equipment made to pass SCA standards or the occasionally ...

Terrific idea. I've also thought about running a fighting "league" at fighter practice. You can fight whomever you want all day, but each week, you're able to fight a 2 out of 3 with anyone else in the league, and the results are recorded. You can do your league for a month or a quarter or whatever ...
