Now that Cut and Thrust is past the experimental phase, I'm really excited about it. The White Scarves in Ansteorra who are in charge of it are by and large good friends and they're trying to sucker, er, convince me to get into it. It DOES look like fun. I don't know about the notion of limiting it ...

LOL... I was just thinking "I don't think *I* could lift 'em! " But I'm pretty wimpy all in all. I didn't notice the fact that they were more narrow, so that makes sense that they wouldn't weigh significatnly more in that case. Very cool.

I know. :) I've met William. Nice fellow, not really sure how he fell in with such bad company, actually.

But no, I was obtuse enough to not get the "get rid of the squire" joke.

So CAW CAW from me was all about a nice new helm. LOL

I think that it's entirely possible that some folks took things a little more harsly than was intended in this thread, overall. I doubt anyone would really dislike each other talking over hammers and beers. Let's all try to remember that. Mike, I wasn't actually talking about the obviously dished po...

It's always an interesting trade off of course. To some people, something like this isn't worth $10 an hour because for $10 an hour they'll learn to do it themselves. For others, it's worth more than $25 an hour, because they make more than 25 an hour, they dont' WANT to learn to do it, and they may...

Interestingly, I will say that while a press may may the work go faster, I don't believe you turn out a superior product because of it. I've watched how Brian Price and Patrick Thaden hammer things, and I've seen historical armour on display, and you just don't see FLAT surfaces like you see in stuf...

I'd say that there are certainly people who exist that use machinery to punch out pieces, but it's by far and away not the norm, nor at all even common.

My personal cliche is 90% of the training is done by 10% of the fighters. If you want to be in the top 20% guaranteed, all you have to do is be one of those 10% who does most of the training. There will always be someone who is better than some of the most ardent trainees on pure physical talent. Bu...

I see the same type of disclaimer ALL THE TIME on armour even now. Some guys flat out say, "While this armour meets SCA standards, it is sold as costume armour and we don't warrent it for protection in combat" or some such. Frankly if i were selling armour, I'd say the same thing.

Man do I envy you. Yesterday we had an ungodly HOT day. It was 107 in some parts of town, and I rode 200+ miles on my motorcycle in the a.m. from Kings Round Table prior to going to practice... I was sapped! Woof.

I think that if we got to a point where we could test this, a side-by-side test of durattan and siloflex covered durattan would be most interesting. But frankly, this stuff isn't radically more expensive than rattan. If it's twice as expensive and lasts 4 times as long, that's WAY freaking cool to m...
