If the guy is a good fighter, he's a good fighter. Who gives a rats ass who he fights for? Of course, the pretty much guaranteed way to GET knighted is consistantly kick the Knight's asses for a few years.. they WILL elevate you eventually, simply because they get tired of getting their ass kicked ...

This is NOT a chicken and egg situation. You work. You train. You go to events. Eventually after much working and training and eventing, you're worthy of something for which they have an awared. I can't imagine you'd argue with that. The work, training and evening all come before the worthyness. But...

Preforce of nature, the shield is going to rest on the top of your hand somewhere. Pay SPECIAL attention to the grip/boss construction in that area. If it kinda tickles when you hold it now, it'll cut the hell out of you and make your life miserable when you fight with it.

Which guys? As far as I know, Meridies still has them banned.

In the SCA, I'd bounce the example mace above for the same reason as Magnus stated above and give the same recommendation. :)

From a strict SCA standpoint, the top looks a little high. It's not undesirable for everyone, but I'd think a lot of fighters who'd really like this helm would REALLY like it if it were a little shorter. Just an opinion.

Is it perfect? No. But I'll tell you what I dislike more than the rivet line, which is just a shortcut to making it easier to build and therefore less expensive. What I don't like is the lack of shape in the back. ALSO a shortcut to make this helm less expensive. This is a ton better than a lot of h...

Matt actually brings up a good point. There are rules regarding rivet spacing. If the helm is not welded on both sides, technically, the rivets would have to be spaced....erm....looking..... 2.5" apart max. They look pretty close to that if not a littel closer, but I don't have a ruler. Personally, ...

My VERY LIMITED experience tells me that most rivets that look bad were peened too long. Trim the rivet down to the size you want, then peen it and you get a better looking peen-mound.

When my weight goes below 220, I have power issues. When it's over 240, I have none. I don't think it's the GUT per se, but more the physics of how you and your body work together....your technique combined with your physiology.

3/16 is bar minimum generally....

But you can go all the way down to 1/8" bars IF they are supported at a minimum of ever 2".

So most armourers just use 3/16".
