Beautiful! I love the sweep of the back. I would definately suggest a bevor though. A normal gorget will leave under the chin completely unarmored, upward thrusts would be a problem, without a bevor, IMO.

The helm is gorgeous! :D

Thank you very much everyone! I am really happy with how this project is turning out! It will be on display all through Pennsic at Mandrake Armory. The set will be for sale, or the individual pieces can be purchased, seperately.

Ok, I am making the rerebraces to match these shynbalds. I used the effigy as a reference for the art and the extant 14c rerebrace that I have produced before. <IMG src="http://www.houseofthewolf.com/progresspics/barrile1335rerebrace1.jpg"> <IMG src="http://www.houseofthewolf.com/progresspics/barril...

No problem Effingham. When you get settled give me a buzz, I would love to meet you.

As for the Barrile joke....I was wondering if anyone would take a poke at that. Notice they aren't blue, nor are they grossly shaped! :D

7 - 9 oz will work for decorative stuff, but it's not really heavy enough to be protective.

You could probably get away with it for the shynbalds, they shouldn't get hit, but I would definately recommend something heavier for lower cannons.

Actually, Flosi, yes King Henry's tonlet on that armour does represent men's clothing fashions of the time. Every portrait of King Henry, that I have seen, show's him wearing a skirt coming off the bottom of his doublet to just above his knees. Whereas women's skirts were floor length at a minimum.

I should have known that you would have engineered a safe helm, but without seeing the spacers, I was wondering about it. I have seen bars seperate before.....

Again, it is a beautiful helm. I really like the way you recessed the rivets in the lattice.

Are the lower bars, under the oculars, supported in any way. Will they seperate if struck horizintally? I can't see if there is a center bar or not. Very nice work, Master Talbot. I really like the over-all look.

If you can post pics of your work, we might be able to give slightly better advice. I find that by starting on the outter area of piece I am dishing and working towards the center, dishing until the piece is the full depth of the shaping surface, and then working the edges on a raising stake to form...

White is also the hardest to maintain, even wrapped and protected...these are meant for use, not just once but as often as the lucky customer wants to use them.....

You are right though, white is a very likely color for what they would have been......maybe a clear coat of acryllic?

I haven't decided on a final color scheme yet, but it will more than likely be dictated by time allowences. These need to be ready nlt Monday.

I am considering the main flowers being gold, withthe vine work green, but I haven't decided on a background color as yet. A dark oiled brown perhaps?

You read that correctly. If you provide the material it will be a lot less expensive. I provided the yellow linnen for about $25.00, so my cost was $130.00 or so. That price is for what you see here. If you need dags, or the points attached etc, that will be extra. They just moved to Florida, so I'm...

For me, I have found that a shield the width of my shoulders and the length no longer than form chin to crotch is perfect. Especially with a heater with all of the coners to catch incoming shots. It's surprising how little a shield needs to be moved if it covers properly. The size I mention here, co...

The big deal, Animal, is that they aren't historically accurate to go with all of the nice harness being used. The same defense can be gained with a properly sized heater and the offense becomes a lot more varried. Usually most folks can't fight around the shield, so they displace it to throw their ...
