The Leather Factory / Tandy Leather is on line now-a-days. They offer several different options for rivets used with leather, to include all-brass, nickle-p;ated end cap rivets. MD,

You would get rudimentary shaping with that. If you were wet forming and tacking it onto a last, that would work really well.

I think it would provide a nice, simple flow to shynbalds and such, so yes, they would work. It's not a technique I use, but I am familiar with it.

My good Jehan, that seems a most worthy time, I leave it to my challenger to pick the time and place upon the fields of Pennsic, but should he choose the time before the battle of the 30, I would be most honored to meet him there.

With all of the attention to detail and the amount of skill that went into the small details with etching, all of the metal lined, etc, I think that price is reasonable. There is easily 170 hours of work involved in the piece, that's a month of labor. That works out to a shop rate of $23.53 an hour,...

Oil it after EVERY use. Wipe it down with an oily rag frequently. You can also try put a coat of wax over the entire surface, this will keep it from rusting in-between uses.

Paint all of the interior......

These are a few of the suggestions I could think of.

Flittie,

Andy is right on what I would suggest. 12 oz veg-tanned leather is fairly supple before hardening, but it is very thick, (approx 3/16").

What you are describing would be more comfortable in 6 - 8 oz. (Not to mention a lot less expensive).

Good luck with your project.
