You water harden your armour right? How do you keep it in the form you want while it bakes? I have had a side of leather now for a couple years rolled up and stored in my closet, I was afraid I'd mess it up after getting it so there it has stayed. Do you think it is still good after all that time s...

I can't help but notice the coloration of these pieces, and in the light these pictures was taken, the aremour does in fact look pink. The armour was dyed oxblood, but it appears to have lightened up for one reason or another. Application of cordovan shoe polish will darken them up and make the armo...

As long as you allow it to dry completely and maintane it then fighting in the rain shouldn't be a problem. However, over time they will soften, re-soaking and then re-baking them will re-harden them. Painting the inside and then sealing them probably is over-kill, just one or the other should be su...

Yes, the clear acryllic sealer is the same as the resolene. The resolene is in a bottle and is applied with a sponge aplicator. The clear acryllic sealer can come in an aerosol can and is easier to apply, (if its the same stuff that I think it is). You can apply it to the inside if you like, but it ...

WOW!... That is really sweet. I have been tooling leather for about 8 years now but I'm kinda scared to use it with hardend leather. Is there any problems with the tooling getting shallow when you soak the leather before you harden it? I've seen alot of your stuff here and it always amazes me every...

Tooled articulated cuir bouilli gorget

Went out on a fantasy limb on this one. The gorget is based on a 15 - 16c articulated gorget, modified to make it work in leather..... Then tooled with celtic and Norse knotwork with a wolf motif at the client's request. Tell me what y'all think. <IMG src="http://www.houseofthewolf.com/gallery/jjgor...

Important Client Updates!!!

Greetings all. Due to quite a few unfortunate mis-sizing issues I have completely redone my measurement charts section. I have replaced all of the charts with pictures showing exactly where I need the measurement taken from. Next to the pictures I have included a description of exactly what the pict...

The question was cynical, and I believe it was asked because this is a armour construction board. Maybe the authenticity board, or perhaps off-topics would be best.... However, I disagree with the 4 - 6 oz suggestion. That would be too stiff IMO, I would reccomend a good 3 - 4 oz garmet weight. You'...

If you are going to paint it with acryllics I would recommend using an acryllic resolyene finish to seal it. The wax in the shoe polish will cause the acryllic to smear. If you are going to use a leather dye, then shoe polish works great as a sealant.

Actually, no they won't. With only the front and rear straps, the lames will not be held together tightly enough to keep them all in line. The central strap is needed to keep it all together.

Thanks for the affirmation Jiri! :D

I've a few people pm me on this topic...Animal is correct, paint the leather with acryillic after baking. If you paint first there will be a couple of reasons why it won't work.... Primarily, the leather is still wet and the acryllic paint will not adhere to wet surfaces. Secondly, acryllic will mel...

I would recommend veg-tanned leather and anywhere from 3 - 5 oz leather. The tooling sides are expensive, but they are very durable ...

I know, it sounds strange, and definately a fantasy / SCAism piece. The problem was, I have this beautiful new helm that I bought at Gulf Wars...the only problem is that a regular gorget won't work it. The face plate sticks out too far and any size thrusting tip can fit right up inside. It fits righ...
