I really like the overall finished appearence. The tooling design is beautiful! I think your tooling marks left on the piece are result of tooling while the leather is still too damp. Either that or, possibly, uneven hammer strokes.

The over-all piece is very nice! Keep up the good work!

For shaping and hardening processes, please read my bauzuband or shovel greave tutorials. they are also posted on my website.

Period greaves of this style were made of brass, and shaped a little diferently. They were designed with a Greek / Roman / eaarly period flavor in mind, not really historical accurecy.

My expieriences with rabbit glue are that a little goes a long way. I would recommend painting it on with a disposable brush, use several coats, one to the outsides, then one to the inside, repeat until you run out of glue.

Allow the pieces to dry over night.

Can you show a pic of (what appears to be) the inner knee? I didn't take any pics of the floating knee cop on this pair, because they still need strapped. I have several pics of this style knee cop though on my shovel greave tutorial... <IMG src="http://houseofthewolf.com/shovelgreavetutorial/shove...

Detailed pics of the piece, both worn and how it was constructed will give us a better idea of what was done, and what, if anything can be done with it.

I'd love to help, if I can, but without pictures, I'm sort of at a loss as to what to tell you.

This was a guess, not given as fact, but opinion. I could be completely off base.

My point was that I commend those that endeavor to enrich our game, and wish that there were more efforts in this area, instead of enabling those who would get by with the absolute minimum.

Rabbit glue works....Gesso, is hide glue, (usually rabbit) mixed with gypsum, the same stuff used for dry wall, or sheet rock. However, rabbit glue will work by itself....make sure that you apply it to both sides of the leather, because when it dries, it has a tendency to pull, or roll the edges. Ap...
