Jason, I didn't know about the maille. Thanks. The helms are really cool too, but I knew that they had some helms, I just didn't know they had worked iron, I thought that that skill was imported. You taught me something new today, thank you very much. Could you email me your referance sources, so I ...

Vladimir, The young man in question purposely insulted someone on the "off-topics" forum, just prior to posting his question here. Quite a few people read it and were a little put off by his unfortunate attitude. I agree that we should try to be more helpful, but...... One should avoid being an ass ...

Now, now, Josh. I admit the young man's posts are abrasive, but no need to threaten the lad. It goes against the grain of what we are trying to portray with our fighting. Fighting in the SCA, should be for the joy of combat, not for beating up on someone without a clue. I know my remarks sound snide...

Branmor, This is a huge question. One that can best be answered by writing up another tutorial on the process. When I'm finished with my current project I will write one up. I would start by purchasing a beginner's tooling set from the Leather Factory. (Or any other leather craft store) and a starte...

If you are looking at before St. Patrick came to Ireland or even before Christianity spread out of Rome, circa 400 AD and before, you will find that the gaelic people didn't have armour as a culture. They wore what thier adversaries wore, or may be a iron cap with a shield. If you are looking for 40...

Looks like your dyed the backside of your pieces as well. do you have any problems with the dye bleeding off onto clothes? Or do you seal the backside? Actually Irish, I just dyed the grain side and the edges. Some dye will bleed onto the flesh side of the leather, but not much. No, generally I do ...

Day 2, Steps 6 - 9 Step 6) Oblong strap punching I do this step directly following the soaking process because the leather is nice and plyable and the oblong punch can go through the leather easier, hence it doesn't over work the tool. The punch can be purchased through any leather craft store. I r...

Gavin, If you read the second paragraph that you quoted, you will read that I soak the leather in in room temprature water. For tooling or embossing, I just "case" it, (just get it damp) For armouring purposes, I thouroughly saturate it for a couple of reasons. One it stays wet longer and all of the...

Hey brother! Those arms that you showed are a reproduction of early 14th century, English. That style and splinted legs / arms were very popular in Spain and Italy in the 14th - early 15th centuries.
