14c Cuir Bouilli Polyens
Greetings all, To make these it required using 16 oz compressed leather that was cut to pattern, then soaked in room temprature water until completely saturated, (approx 12 hours). I then did the preliminary edge worked and allowed the pieces to cure over night. The pieces were then dished in a smal...

Well, Here is a project that I have looked forward to for a while. I am still having trouble with the side profile, that will be apparent in the side view pics, but the front and back shapes are fairly accurate to the pics I was going off of.....I still am having probelems with getting both sides to...

Lol....good eye on the couch coushin model. Yeah, that's the lop-sidedness...I hope...lol The hardening was spotty at best. It didn't really fit in the oven, so most of it's rigidity is based on the fact it's thick as hell, and was stiff even when it was wet. The sides were thinner so they have a l...

I just recieved the shovelgreaves back from Vasilii, and have discovered the problem. The leather is indeed too thin to retain its rigidity. That is the problem with buying leather in bulk and quickly cranking out overdue projects, details like that will get missed. My sincere apologies to Vasilli. ...

Major Policy Changes
Greetings all, Due to recent concerns about necessary rigidity of my armours, specifically required covered areas, (i.e.:knees, elbows, neck and hands) will now be made from 16oz armour or sole bend leathers. This will increase the cost of these items by about $10.00 - $30.00 per piece determined by...

Infinity steel, thank you for your suggestion, I will look into edge skiving before I go to final assembly. I will be assembling it with very small brass rivetes. Otagiri, the back plate is out of proportion with the side plates. It's actually the same width as the front plate. I choose to do this b...

Yes, I know its in leather....this is for an artwork that a friend has commisioned, just to see if I can do it. Learning lots in the process, and I'm not sure that I am happy with the stepping of the helmet lames, but that is the thickness of the leather working against me, not sure how to fix it......

Vasilii was completely accurate when he described the situation as a comedy of errors. I will not go into the details of this past year for myself, because they are of no consequense to the client or this situation. Vasilii, I am sorry that you got the impression that I am, "a craftsman taking a job...

I really appriciate the accolades and wonderful responses, but it appears as if this may be a legitimate concern. I do my absolute best to provide my clients with the best quality product I can, but I am not infailuble and leather does weird things sometimes. I will not know the exact reason for con...

Re: Articulating my position on leather
Dan does great work, but I know of problems with "rigid" leather articulations which, given slight use, simply start binding and popping. Problems that came in professionally made gear equivalent to Dan's level of workmanship. Properly designed leather armor does not require articulation. Properly ...

That is very interesting looking. Seriously, not to sound condesending at all, it is truly interesting looking. Based off of a Roman lorica segmentata, correct? The etching / embossing work looks nice and crisp, as does your finish work. What will this harness be used for? LRP, boffer, or just costu...

Having now looked at the pics of it on your arm, I would say that the cone needs to be much deeper. The point of the cone should not come in contact with your elbow at all, not even when it is bent, with this style elbow. the conne is deeper and then where it flairs out to meet the forearm and bicep...

Christopher, That is a very challenging project, and for a test piece I think that it came out fairly well. I would recommend attepmting to shape the inside of the elbow more. It should come to a point, like you accomplished, but the cop should bowl to fit the elbow joint, so it should have a more r...

Maelgwyn, yes, I did add a matching back plate and busckles, but the client wants to wear this instead of a surcoat. HammerHand, that is a groove made by a saddlestich gorover, it is mostly decorative...no real function, other that it makes the edges seem more finished....I saw it done several years...
