I have seen book covers that used that technique, but they applied the gesso to the cover (sometimes mixed with leather dust and scrap pieces) and then covered it with leather. If you used wet leather and a glue that works with that and then shape the surface with the appropriate tools or the backs...

Actually, noone was concerned with being able to fight on thier knees in the 14th century. If the greave, polyen, and cuisses that were all protected from swords and arrows, then that was all that mattered. I am not certain that nobels of the time period were overly concerned with that style of knee...

After opening ceremonies, Sunday afternoon, I believe my schedule is wide open. I will double check with my liege. Hell, he will probably accompany me and witness this Deed. I know that he has long followed the travels of the Couter.

I can't wait! See everyone there!

Are the bazubands for SCA combat? I think the Bazubands have a good historical shape to them. The photos are kind of small so it is hard to see detail, but it looks like you did a pretty good job. Generally, the more dye you apply to leather the darker or richer the color will become, so adding just red dye to a piece that has been dyed oxblood will only darken the piece.

These pieces were dyed with Feibling's Red leather dye, from my Leather Factory supplier.
