However, I do not expect or ask for the remainder of a commission until you are satisfied with the pictures you have seen of sa...

Re: Glue Hardening
Ok, I've just spent the past few hours looking at previous posts about glue hardening leather. I was wondering what advances in knowledge have come about recently in the technology of glue hardening. None that I have read here or anywhere else. I have been experimenting with this technique myself, ...

Female Musculata Part 2
Greetings all, Just finished up another female musculata. this one was made to exact client specifications. Still didn't get all of the definition that I would have liked, but the leather would not stretch farther on the prominent dishing areas. <IMG src="http://www.houseofthewolf.com/gallery/bodyar...

Frieman, I am very angered by this as well. How shameful. Please PM or email me. We never got the opportunity to cross swords at Pennsic, but we have sung plenty of songs together, and your cause is a very worthy one. I don't know who all is on your list, and frankly, I don't want to know, but if th...

acryllic resolene works well, as does, different shoe polishes, (kiwi works best). The problem with waxes is that they will need to be reapplied as the item is worn, but with proper maintenance, polishing waxes work well. What are you trying to seal, and what will the item be used for. That might he...

It has been my experience that folks do call differently, depending on where they are struck in relation to the armour they are wearing on that area. When I throw a shot, I generally know what area it will hit, and I do calibrate my shots accordingly. I don't throw as hard to arms as I throw anywher...

Maelgwyn is the authority on using rabbit glue for hardening. I have tried the techniques that he has posted and have had very nice results as well. If the piece needs a lot of shaping, I would suggest shaping before glueing it, but Maelgwyn might have some tips on that. (If so, I am eager to hear t...

Mayerk, I suspect that you are correct for thinner leathers. However for thicker leathers, say 8 oz and thicker, I have found that shaping the piece by compressing it into a dishing form, (or other shaping device), holds its shape rather well and only needs small adjustments to shape while baking. I...

Bedlam, The best way to re-harden them will be to disassemble them. Once that is accomplished, re-soak them in water, this will take a surprisingly short period of time, say 15 - 30 minutes. Re-shape as necessary, and then bake dry in the oven, 180 degrees, until they are completely dry, checking th...

Over all, a very good first attempt. The overall shaping, especially of the shoulder piece looks very good. Your self critique was very thorough, so there isn't much to add, but a few observations of my own; 1) check the shape as you bake. It appears as if some of the lames have rolled in to make a ...

You might try adding additional padding to the lower back portion of the helm. This will push the back of it further away, and bring the chin of the helm closer. You are likely to still need to work on the gorget, but this might help.... Never tried it, just an idea that popped into my head while r...
