The problem with that idea is mobility of the hand on the hilt of the weapon. It has been tried before, but nothing with acceptable results for the type of fighting that we do in the SCA. An interesting project, but it seems to be too combersome without the flexibility.....If you come up with a desi...

Nice looking work; I posted your website over on the SwordMaiden forum. A couple ladies were asking about where to find someone who makes C-belts. I recommended yours. I especially like the (what I am calling) "Pissed off Dolphin" bauzabands. Do you mind if I save the pic you have of my leg armor? ...

neutral shoe polish will work, paste wax will work, they are essentially the same thing, they can both be applied to the inside of the leather.

Konstantin, Thanks for the tips! I put the shoe polish on after the oil right? Just checking. About how long will it take for the leather to cure after I have put on the oil? Once I make the collar, it will be about a week before I will be ready to sew it on. Will that be enough time? Will there be...

A shapened stylus? You mean like a modeling spoon with a sort of cutting edge on it? So you're not using a swivel knife and a hammered tool (like a beveler) on this one? Christopher I always wanted to see a cased greave in leather The stylis isn't for cutting so much as for leaving an impression in...

Raising leather is done with the same principals as raising steel. It doesn't react exactly the same, it doesn't shrink back on itself. What metal is doing during that process, is the metal's molecular structure is actually moving, leather doesn't do that. It is an organic material, heat will make i...

Since this will be a lining under mail and then the leather will be covered with silk, just oil the outside. The smooth side.

Very nice! I'll be interested how the edges match up. I have a hard enough time with steel-and it stays where I smack it! Gonna overlap or butt the two halves? Actually, with the casing I use for extensive tooling like this, the leather does not get entirely saturated, so when I shape it, it stays ...

cuir bouilli cased greave (day 2)

I notice that the spring latch is inside the verville line. The problem I see with that, is when you attach the aventail it will rest on the latch. Now the stainless aventails from knutt are pretty light, but activating the latch will be a hassel with the aventail on, or will it?
