I do not think any of it is really good for strapping. It is a bit too thick for that. This is all 12 to 15 ounce vegetable tan leather. Great for armor and boot/shoe soles.

I have almost 40 pounds of 12 to 15 ounce vegetable tan leather scrap. Some pieces as big as 2' X 2' it just isn't suitable for making commercial grade armor, but is perfectly good for personal use. Well I would never tell anyone NOT to but someone elses product. But my rule of thumb is if you can get the same thing in period materials, why not? I make hardened leather lamellar scales of the same shape and size. To be fair mine are a little more expensive than the plastic. But here is the stand...

I should have also mentioned that I also make hardened leather lamellar if that is the armor you prefer. It is very light.

Not to blow my own horn, but my hardened leather bazubands weigh 1 pound each. My hardened leather scale suits weigh approx 16 pounds for neck to knee coverage.

This is my old scale suit. It is made with natural color canvas with natural brown scales. The scales are a red brown in color. All the scales are hand sewn onto the canvas. I've already worked on making carpet armor look good. I wore carpet armor for my first 4 years in the SCA and was constantly asked if I really was wearing carpet. All the carpet I make is glue stiffened, painted, and edged. But I am always happy to see other efforts.
