Hardenned and tempered 20 ga or even 22 ga steel should be more than adequate for churburg-style segmented breastplates, especially if they are as deeply dished as the original. If the plates are flatter then 20 or even 18 ga might be a good idea. From observations posted on this forum I get the imp...

I'm not entirely convinced that these are not simple pturges with an artistic convention of not splaying them out on the upraised arm. If this is something more, you might try connecting the pturges at the lower end or in the middle with a strip of cloth or light leather and see if that gives you th...

You will probably find that most serious SCA type fighters have a bull neck (larger than average, from wearing a helmet). I suspect that they will be one or two sizes up above the average normal proportion. Because of this phenomenon, armourers should be careful in building gorgets for new fighters...

Re: Monday Morning Train-in - it's startin' to pay off
So, are you starting to see any benefits to your training regimen? Yes I am. I feel a noticeable improvement in both arm strength and core strength, which directly affects balance, the ability to use feints, and the development of power from unusual angles. My wind is improving although I still hav...

Yes, for many steppes nomad helms, late Roman helms (influenced by steppes nomads) and early post-Roman helms (influenced by late Romans). This image is 6th century Sarmatian. Mid-week practice in DFW area, Dec 27-30?
I'll be in town visiting Llewellyn and Xene. Will folks be doing a mid-week practice that week? Any interest in a post-Chistmas meet and beat? I'd like a chance to work with some people who have used center-grip shields, especially ovals, longer than I have.
