They COULD be used, i'm not saying they have to be but it is always easier for the novice. I like to make my own hinges but i'm not bothered about getting on the field as soon as i can. Sorry about that little shock, although there are some pretty close matches to some of the hinges found.

The hardest part of a lorica would be making the hinges and lacing loops, those are available at most hardware stores anyway.

Do you mean like all the buckles,straps and lacings as well. I was thinking of doing a stainless kit a while back but it never went much further because i couldn't figure out a good general size. E-mail me for more info

i don't joust but i've seen it close up and it looks painful. i'd recommend 12g mild, it's god damn near bullet proof for a helmet skull anyway :D

For my summer holiday project i was thinking of building a lance for my 1480s knightly persona. He is milanese and is not poor but not stinking rich, what size and decoration am i looking at. I was thinking of plain old lumberyard softwood. what do y'all think

I was thinking of stainless. maybe left overs from the facrciation shop or something. 5/8ths, thats not much at all. thats a lot of plates that i'll need.

I'm sorry but those are recurves not longbows. Medieval longbows had only a very very small amount of rceurve on them like these.
