Foreign export helm.

Someone is finally doing some research. this helmet looks like a pretty decent general style armet.

some of the other helmets are not looking too shabby either like that bellows face sallet.

First thing i would think about is the cost of heat treating the steel cos' it will have to be annealed at some stage. i suggest you go to a steel fabrication shop and ask them to plasma cut it out. it may be a tad expensive but will be cheaper than buying all those jigsaw blades.

Well, with much reluctancy i started on the halves today. i did them at the same time rather than do one and then match the other. it took me just under half an hour to dish within about an inch of a perfect fit. I used my modified lump hammer, it has a 1lb ball cut in half and welded to either side...

I think i'm going to have to upgrade m yplanishing hammer from a ball pein to some kind of large mallet type object. The steel came as a free half perf/half normal sheet from my dads work. i whacked the perf bit and it barely moved(7lb sledgehammer)

Overkill?

I just got back from the fabrication shop with my helmet halves for my Armet.I am using Sinrics patterns and i have chosen to use some scrap 3mm steel, is this overkill or just right. it translates to about UK12g. I am planning on selling the helmet to SCAdians when finished.

I've seen a propane tank explode before and i is NOT pretty or funny at all. The shrapnel is razor sharp and very big but if that doesn't kill you the fireball will. http://www.thedailystar.com/news/stories/2001/05/08/farmer.html http://www.news-record.com/news/local/rock/explosion_063004_hp.htm htt...

I think that if you've had no previous experience in armouring you are setting yourself up for a HUGE disapointment, Especially if you want it to look great the first time round. By all means though have a bash at it. If you need help with anything mail me at haymanarmoury@hotmail.com

To be Honest wouldn't the fan be in the way for a reason. maybe becuase the other ones were ill fitting or too big. those look to small to even have because they would offer little to no protection against a weapon.

Raising is pretty simple like ralphS said but it requires a decent heat source and a lot of energy. I'm about a quarter done with my bascinet and my forge is indespensable. keep your hand steady and the piece up to the stake be it 'T' or ball and keep your courses close together.

i use mild for my ball stake and a years use has hsown very little wear with the odd polish every now and again. i even use a cast iron ball i found and that seems to be working better than the steel one.
